View Full Version : Maxximum Maxx Suspension!

I have a dominator hybrid. I have full set of rpm arms on it and rpm shocktowers that I had to cut the lower 2 mounting holes from to lower the tower to get the maximum suspension out of the arms that I could get with 4.75" shocks. Now the lower arms are hitting the chassis and it seems like that is all the suspension that I can get out of these without adjusting the upper pillow balls to allow more droop and also notching the chassis.

My question is. What is the maximum suspension droop that you can get out of the tmaxx suspension? While using the tmaxx bulkheads.

And also what is a better suspension system the tmaxx or savage? I've owned a 2.5 maxx and it would bottom out all the time doesn't matter what springs or wt oil. while the savage .25 out of the box I can hold it over my head and drop it and it doesn't bottom out "i'm 5.9' " Plus the savage front and rear housings will take the dominator diffs without anything extra while the tmaxx bulks require different cases.

Basically I'm after the maximum suspension droop that I can get so that I can take massive jumps and get huge air but when I land I don't have to worry about smashing my chassis everytime!

I'm also considering taking the pro-line bulks that I have and selling them along with the tmaxx cvd's and the rpm arms and shocktowers and basically keeping the diffs and using savage front and rear ends on a custom chassis. But I would hate to do this and then not be able to get any more droop out of the suspension than what I currently have.

So if you guys have some front on shots of your truck with your suspension jacked all the way up post your pics and the measurements from the ground to the bottom of the lowest point of the chassis. And also tell what shocks your using with what wt and what springs and what size jumps you can take before you bottom out your truck.

I don't car about being top heavy because with a buggy chassis it's really hard to be top heavy like a savage or a tmaxx. I have yet to roll my dominator hybrid on pavement or grass or gravel. it doesn't roll it just slides or grips.

So give me some input here people. as I've hit a wall and I know what I want but can't seem to find a solution. and I don't have the money to just start buying stuff to see if it works. I need to know what works as I can only buy something 1 time.

Thx in advance.

Here is what I'm working with.

I belive the suspension on the maxx is better simply because you can adjust it. Unlike the savage were all you can do is put in or remove shock spacers. I also belive that the savage has better shocks as far as not bottoming out as much as the maxx. If you are talking about suspension for racing, you can tune a maxx as were it will never bottom out. If you are talking about jumps like on Slapmafro videos, then the Savage is way better. I really don't see why you need anymore suspension travel on your Dom. It looks like you have plenty!

This is my bash truck, and when I take a 5' jump it bottoms out. I don't want it to bottom out. I guess I should just put some rpm skid plates on the bottom of the chassis and be happy huh? :D

Jackyl, don't you have Savage shocks on one of your other trucks? I could swear it was yours that I saw posted around here somewhere and it had some pretty high clearance.

When you mentioned hybrids before, I didn't know you meant a Dom hybrid. Heck, I would have paid more attention ;)

Have you considered a set of Nova towers for this particular truck? You'd have plenty of adjustability at least.

I have a set of nova hybrid towers on their way. But I still want more suspension but I think this is all that I'm going to be able to get out of this truck. that is why I have put it up for trade. I want to trade this truck for a built savage. just truck for truck no electronics. and I just spent money on a full set of titanium hing pins and the new nova shock towers. This is a killer truck it's just that I can hold a savage over my head and drop it and it doesn't bottom out and then this thing and it slaps the chassis. and I'm 5'9" so I want a savage now but it has to be built. not a stock savage.

This truck is insainly fast for just a .21 it'll eat a 2.5 tmaxx and a .25 savage no problem. On a track the only thing that will give it a run is a 1/8 buggy with a .26 or bigger. you don't even have to let off the throttle to turn just power in power out! it's crazy and it sticks like glue. But it jumps like a buggy "cause it is a buggy" and I want to get big air like 10+ without bottoming out.

Well I got my towers and I got my titanium hinge pins. now that takes care of those 2 problems. but I'm still in need of 8 5mm shock standoffs. if anyone has some pm or email me or something!

But I managed to figure out a way to get enough more suspension out of this truck. I had the take material off the chassis and off the tmaxx hubs. Now I just have to get longer turnbuckles and also maybe make a new steering rack not sure out that one. I just need to get the time to take a dremel to the hubs to make them work with a pillow ball that is at a 45 degree angle "yes it can be done"

I'll post some new pics soon as long as everything works out the way that I want it to. Going on 2 weeks since I had this truck out flying. But hopefully the next time I take it out it'll fly better and take landings without bottoming out.
