I have read some good reviews in the latest mags about this roll cage and I am considering getting one for my Savage. I primarily bash in my yard and the street and have rolled my SS several times scratching up the engine head.
Does anyone here have any practical experience with these? Pros/Cons?
I know it adds about 10 oz of weight, but my primary concern is the protection of my engine. I have seen RC Raven and Hard Bodyz cages but they do not extend over the engine, however they are much less expensive.
Any thoughts?

My $0.02 is to just build your own roll cage. There not that hard to build at all. And even if you dont know how to braze, solder, or weld you can still construct a solid cage using JB weld.

the thing about the rcsolutions rollcage is that it really increases your CG. but it will protect your truck, no questions asked.

I don't know about the savage but for the MGT it has aluminum chassis guards which apparantly constitute much of the weight so the CV isn't as high as you might think. I do plan on getting one myself. They do look much nicer than any of the other ones available

When you roll doesn't the roll bar protect the engine head? Thats what its there for.
Or you could put some zip ties (4) around the top fin of the headsink head. When you roll the zipties will be all scratched up, not your head.

The Savage roll bar, if you want to call it that, does not protect the engine head from damage. It serves as more of a handle than anything.
With as cool as the roll cage looks I won't mind cutting the body up, they never stay pristine long anyway. Hell, since I do not race nor do I run in dusty conditions, I may just leave the body off. The roll cage looks too cool.

True dat. I think it looks better with the roll cage.
And Maxxcrazy- I have zip-ties on my engine head and I still scratched the colling head and bent the top fin when my Savage flipped over backwards from a wheelie.

the zipties wont keep your cooling head from bending or breaking, but if you slide on the ground upside down it'll keep it from scratching.

No, zip ties help to prevent scratches, but they don't fully stop them. I put four of them on my cooling head as soon as I got my Savage and I've flipped over backwards from wheelies (not from landing upside down) and I've scratched the cooling head.

when you flip back from a wheelie you slam the cooling head on the ground, that will definately hut it. what i'm saying is if you flip during a turn, the zip ties will keep your CH from gettin scratched (not completely though)

If you don't race and just bash, I think a roll cage is a great idea. Who doesn't want more protection. It does also look really sweet on the truck too.

I want an RC Solutions roll cage for my savage too, but I have a hard time coughing up 105 dollars for it.

Does anyone else have a problem opening the RC Solutions web site?

Yeah, you're not the only one. Probably down for updates.
If you want to buy a roll cage from RC Solutions, they are cheaper at horizon hobby. http://www.horizonhobby.com/ The savage one at RC's site is 115 and at Horizon it's 105.

Yea i need the extended one...and 250 for the cybermaxx setup (since its the only extended one) is insane. I will build my own. Or get one built at a local welding shop, get it powdercoated, and buy a new shell to go over it (if i want to cover it) for less.

The RCS cage is likely the best "mass" produced cage on the market today, the price is reasonable considering the real protection they offer, unlike many costing as much or more. I just dont like the "snap together" look of the RCS cage.
