I'm new to nitro..just got my Miss Bud...I never ran a nitro anything before and would appreciate any tips on the break in process...the factory manual is vague. I have a water pump from an old fountain and was considering hooking it up to the h20 pickup and running it in the shop for the break in instead of the lake...any tips?

DON'T DO IT!!!!!!! These nitro motors need a load on them to break in properly. Take it to the lake and run it with a rich needle setting for the first few tankfulls. I'm sure others will say the same

I agree. They need a load and a few tanks of gas at a rich setting. Can't add to it.

Something else that I forgot earlier, read through the threads about the nitro Bud. I know many have replaced the stock prop, as it is basically junk. You may learn a lot about the boat through the posts :)

Sounds a bit rich - like you're putting out the fire with all of the fuel & the only way to keep it lit is with the ignitor plugged into it. It's common, no biggey. Gently screw the main mixture screw in until it seats, counting the turns as you move it in. This will tell you where the needle was when you started. Now, try it again 1/2 turn shy of where you were. Mine likes to be 3-1/2 turns or so. Remember, a smokey exhaust is good when breaking in an engine. A shrill smokeless exhaust is bad. If it burns your nose you're close. Also check to make sure the carb & the head are down tight, it happens. It has different symptoms, but you might as well check it while you're in there.
