Hello

I'm new too this RC boat stuff.

I did order this new type of heat racer speedboat.

Any 1 else over here got any experience with this boat?

I think I will put the O.S RG M in it,let me know if you guys have any other engine in mind(must be a 21 sized engine)

http://www.kyosho.co.jp/rc_model/boat/racingboat/fmr21v/fmr21v-e.html

Will make lots of building pictures of this kit.

It's a really new boat so I haven't seen one in person yet. A friend of mine in Japan, Martin Knox, usually works as a school teacher teaching English and runs his boats near the Kyosho HQ. He was approached by the owner (!) of Kyosho to have him assist in the R&D work on the boat. Marty got to race it at the Japanese version of our Internat's. The one in the picture was destroyed at that race and was the Kyosho owners personal boat.
With an O.S. motor, tuned pipe with muffler, some Octura hardware including an X440/3 prop and composite strut and rudder, a Company has finally come out with a class legal RTR boat that actually has a chance of winning a race!
I knew of this boat over a year ago and am glad to see that it is finally coming out. Marty did note however that in his opinion that the strut and rudder may want to be swapped out with an Octura or other brand of hardware.
Are you getting one with or without the motor? I don't know how they are marketing it. It was originally supposed to be RTR with motor and radio installed.

If you use OS 21RGM. You have to check the bearing frequently.
Me and my friends use this motor and all have bearing problem.

One more thing on the prototype that was raced. It was made in Carbon Fiber, not Fiberglass like the production version. I wouldn't mind having one myself but I've already got a pretty quick .21 mono.
So, what is the price tag on this? I heard the $500.00 range.

Ron Olson:

Thanks for sharing this great info with me.
Can you show me some of the Octura hardware parts you where talking about?

KamPuiWong:

That isn't a good thing, but I still have an O.S RZ buggy engine, that is not running any more,so maybe I can replace the bearings once needed.
Thanks for letting me know!
I'm still looking into some different brand marine engines.

On 1 side I'm glad it isn't a RTR(can choose your own engine and radio) on the other side I wish it was, cause this kit is $$$ (around $500 indeed)and still need lots of stuff too make it run:

Engine.21 size
Flywheel
Tuned Silencer
Manifold
Trim flap
Turn fin
Propeller: D40-D45

I need some help with the propeller, what does D40-D45 mean?(I ques its the size :D )
And I was looking at this side for some nice props, but don't know which 1 too order: http://www.offshoreelectrics.com/forsale_props.htm

P.S how importend is the steering servo?
I mean do I need a fast and strong 1?
My first choise would be the Hitec 625.

The D40-D45 must be their code number for the prop. Look at the prop and you can see that it is an Octura X440/3, so the first number is probably the diameter in millimeters and the second must be the pitch. The strut and rudder were originally going to be Octura also but they decided to go with their own composite pieces.
The Hi-Tec servo would do the job with no problem. Any standard servo for the throttle.
$500.00 is pretty steep for what you don't get. For the same price, I can get a hull, Speedmaster hardware and a radio plus a few other odd parts.

For the OS 21, the properller I use is Graupner 2317.48
Diameter 48mm with pitch 1.4, it is designed for 3/16" drive dog. It is a Carbon fibre propeller.

You can use up to pitch 1.4 and 51mm diameter propeller(Graupner 2317.51) for the OS 21 engine.

Thanks alot you guys, with helping me out of the propeller choise.

Could the bearing problem be caused by not using an airfilter?
Only special thing I know about OS it that you have too make sure you fuel has around 18% oil in it.
I've looked at other engine, but they are so much more expensive than the OS RGM

I just can't wait too get my first rc boat and build it.

We don't use air filters on boats. There isn't a lot of dust out on the water! :D An air filter will only clog up with water then it won't start or will stall. The biggest enemy of bearings is rust.

One of the marine engine failure problem was caused by the water inside the engine compartment. The metal parts (bearing, shafts.......) become rusted and then fail.

Finally I got my boat today.

I will be building it this weekend for as far as I can do now,as they forgot the option parts, and I still need too order the O.S RG M(which version shall I take pullstart or none pullstart?

The parts included are real high kyosho quality(what else too expext with such a $$$ price.

But no colored decals are included, only some FMR21V type stickers,so I have too buy an airbrush set and need too practise on some pieces before making this boat look just as cool as kyosho made it.

Here are a few pictures already:

Thanks for sharing the pix! A really trick paint job would look good on all of the curves.

Hi. I see you are hailing from The Netherlands. In my opinion, you would do better to go with one of the Italian engines. Specifically the CMB or Nova Rossi .21's. I think Ron will agree. If you want a pull-start engine, then you may have to go with the OS Max.

If you're going to build it as a race boat, get a good motor like the Nova Rossi, Rossi, CMB or whatever is the hot one there. I'm not a fan of the CMB Greenhead, I have a friend that bought 2 of them and he had carb problems with them. The cure for that is using a remote needle or a carb swap.
If you want a quiet pipe though, I haven't heard a quieter one than the CMB TT pipe, the water splashing off the hull is louder!
