Hey guys. I've never dealt with any RC equipment and would like to get in to RC planes. I'm not too crazy about ARF kits, I'd like to build something of my own. The only thing i can't find any info on are the Radios.

I take it that 3 channel radio will give me control of the ruder, elevator and speed. 4 channel will provide extra control. But how do they control speed? will i have to hold the controller down for constant speed, or is it a fixed position that i can choose?
Thanks a bunch.

Hi,
The typical control setup has the sticks for the flight controls centered with light springs. Typically, the throttle lever either has fine ratchet teeth, or a friction device to help it hold position. A four channel transmitter would have two control sticks, each of which move in two axis. The left stick up and down movement is normally throttle. Side to side on this stick would be rudder on a four channel model. The right stick up and down is elevator, while side to side is ailerons. When setting up a three channel model it is normal to connect the rudder servo to the channel that responds to the right stick, so that the rudder and elevator are on the same stick. I hope this helps a little bit.
