i've got a hawk 3.5. i'm still building it. do you just need the part #'s for the hardware? if so, i think i've got 'em on the blue prints. also, you might want to shop around for other hardware too. there's plenty that would fit.

well, hydro...maybe it has something to do with the fact that i loooooove dumas!!!! (yeah...right) anywho, here's the hardware that's called for in the blue print:

marine specialties, part # 1029 (strut & bracket assy), 1234 (rudder), 1223 (pivot bracket)

octura 4-40 engine mount

hughey b 6066 (.187 x 18 cable assy)

i don't know about what you want from this boat, swifty, but while building mine, i've decided to purchase a set of sponsons from a Firefighter .21.

Call the designer of the boat himself, Gary Preusse. He'll be out of town this weekend at the Record Trials in Flint, MI so wait until Tuesday. His number is 630-279-2451. He'll answer any questions that you have and has everything that you'll need in stock at good prices. No web site. Good thing or he'd never get away from the computer.

OK you two, just about every boater at one time or another has owned a Dumas boat, I've had 3 that I can remember (or would like to forget).:D

dumas is great!!!! if you're a carpenter! and don't mind a lot of sanding, and headaches! i love dumas soooo much, they've inspired me to buy only lazer cut or fiberglass from now on! but since i have a hawk, i figured i'd build it ( i bought it when i was 17, and didn't know any better...now i'm 25 and just started building it!!!!!!!)...i'm now a little older and wiser. i should've learned after my 3.5 tunnel hull!!! so, i'll offer my help to anyone else that happens to have one. but swifty...if you already bought your hawk...get ready! and check out climate, they'll sell you a set of sponsons from they're own outrigger that will beat the hawk's by a long shot!!! the hawk was a fast boat about 10 years ago, but to be good today it needs some upgrading! maybe, once i get the parts i'm waiting for, i'll post some pics of what i'm going to do.

Not to worry Ron, just having a little fun at Dumas' expense. Actually building Dumas hydro kits taught me what NOT TO DO. I found the 30 inch Pay N' Pak and 36 inch Atlas kits to be very instructional, as they are heavy and ill handling if you follow the directions to the letter.

the lessons we learn in this hobby are helf the reason to participate, right? the hawk (i believe) is a solid boat. but, the way dumas built the kit...well, they could have spent more time on it. i just can't wait to finish mine, because i expect big things out of it, along with the changes i've made to it. then again, i still consider myself a novice, and my ideas may not work!!! but like i said...it's the lessons we learn.

So would it just be better to buy the firefighter .21 instead that was the only kit I could find at first. I'm not looking to race just go fast.

buy the firefighter!!!! i'd get one myself, but i have to finish a few other boats before i start new projects! look at climate models...they have 'em there:

i think that link should take you right to the firefighter boats. those guys at climate are great, and they'll take good care of you!

Dumas built good boats 20-some years ago and that's the problem, just like Prather also, they haven't built much of anything new since then so their designs get outdated. Die cutting is out, Laser cutting is in.
Peter Richards is producing a lot of boat kits for others now including Tom Moorehouse's Firefighter kits. I met him and his wife at Toledo last year, they're both a couple of characters. Pete and I still talk in chat rooms every few weeks.
Gary Preusse's designs are still winning races but it's almost the only one that Dumas puts out that are except for the Hot Shots on occasion.
