ok...it's almost finished, just waiting on my batt's and my props. but the boat is all done and the motor and harware are all installed. here's the specs:

trinity green machine 3 (blueprinted stock motor)
fuller's fast electric's hardware
m-troniks tempo speed control (water cooling added)
hitec reciever with futaba steering servo
6 cells (3300's)
dean's connectors all around

the hull is a climate blizzard, 24 inches in length, approx 14 inch beam, i left the finish natural wood. i used two coats of epoxy that i sanded down just to fill any pores in the wood, followed by clear coat. pic's follow!!!!

building this boat has gotten me absolutely hooked on fast electrics!! big thanks out to peter at climate models for answering all of my stupid questions! can't wait to get this thing on the water.

Looks awesome! Can't wait to see it on the water! I'm sure it will be extremely fast :D

i'm hoping for high 30's into the low 40's at least. if the postal service ever decides to deliver my props and batteries we may just find out! i'm hoping for some action pic's this weekend. i'll also be testing out a scratch built out-rigger with another guy from the LHS. his boat should be stupid-fast, details on that project later.

I'm surprised you didn't put shoes on the rear. To keep weight down, I would use carved balsa blocks with a single layer of untralite glass for waterproofing. Just a thought :)

BoatDoc

there is a set of rear pads that come along with the kit. i chose not to put them on. if i think i need 'em i'll ad them on. they're foam core, with 1/32 balsa sheeting. that's just how the front sponsons built up too.

Okay, didn't know it came with them :) The rear shoes are normally used to keep the rear from sinking too deep at slow speeds. I would also love to see action pics, if and when the rest of the parts finally show up :D I will say you did a nice job on it, looks fantastic in the pics you 've posted :D

thanks hydro! i have to plug climate (again)...this boat is way to easy to build. plus it looks great. i HATE wood working, but somehow i managed to do it! i think peter needs to put me on the payroll for advertising!!! i really can't wait to get it in the water. i will be testing about 5 different props on my boat, and on the one my friend built. i will definitely post the action pics when i get 'em. just wait til late summer...she'll get the 8-cell brushless set up!!!!!

Now wait a minute! I thought you "army types" never had any money???? Aren't brushless just a "little" expensive?

BoatDoc
05-17-2004, 08:49 PM
i don't have money!! that's why i have a stock motor in the boat now! i have to save the "cashish" until i can afford the brushless motor and speed control. and don't forget how much a couple 8 cell 3300 packs cost!! but since i don't have a life outside of my boats, it shouldn't be hard to save up! just remember...even on a tight budget, a dedicated boater can ALWAYS find a way to go faster. i used to do this on a high school budget!

Consider yourself lucky. Between boats, homeowner expenses(i.e. mortgage, home repairs, etc), and being an officer in a dance festival, I forgot what a dollar bill looks like. I'm just lucky the significant other buys her own dance clothes.

most of my dollar bills go directly to places like the LHS and climate and fine design. so i haven't seen one for a while. i've been living on peanut butter to finance this thing. actually, the total cost of this little rocket was under $350. so i can't complain too much!

my matched gp3300's showed up today!!!! i' should have both packs built tonight. just need props...

Glad to hear it, as some of us are STILL waiting on action pics :D Can you tell I'm one of them? hehehe :D

i got the first pack built. i got it hooked up and let the esc "learn" the transmitter settings. i pulled the trigger and wow! if i had props i'd be driving to the lake right now. i didn't see any glitching either. so...hopefully this weekend will be a good time for one of my infamous "test and tune" days. i'm waaaaaaay too anxious!!! hmmm...what will the next project be?

hmmm...what will the next project be?

Matrix????? 12 cells should get your heart going when you get tired of 6-7.
Banshee on 24 cells????? Na never mind. you cant handle 100MPH :)

oh c'mon peter!! i can handle it!!!! i just can't AFFORD it!! anyway, thanks for your help on this project, you have another happy custumer. i was actually thinking about that classic hydro on a 700 and 8 cells for some LSH action. or the el lobo 2. or the matrix. or the...uh oh...i've been bit by the electric bug!!!!! i just need to remember that car payments come first.

What's all this electric bug crap? Here I was thinking you were a "bad to the bone I. C. boater" :( Let's get real and build a 1/10th scale hydro, like a Pay N' Pak or Atlas Van Lines, maybe even a Circus Circus. What am I saying? 1/10th scale boats are ELECTRIC!!!!! I better get back to my garage and get back to work on my 1/8th scale 1999 Miss Madison, before I totally loose it :D hehehe

BoatDoc

i'm bbbbbad to the bone! it just so happens that these electrics grabbed me!! don't worry, i've still got my nitro boats. however, my blizzard will outrun all but one of 'em!

BoatDoc

no props yet!!! this is getting frustrating. the postal service is really getting on my nerves. if they're not here by tomorrow, i won't be able to her for at least another week.

BoatDoc
05-21-2004, 11:30 PM
well...the time has come...i may get to run this puppy! there's an electric airplane fly-in in the morning. they're doing it near a pond and all boats are welcome!!!! although my props haven't arrived, i've got a HIGHLY modded y534 that i've been wanting to run. i think i'll take her out for a run and see how it goes. the camera is ready, and i'm psyched for a shot to run my new baby!

BoatDoc
05-22-2004, 09:23 PM
ok, the prop was a bad idea. it wouldn't allow the motor to rev up. however...there's a few new boaters in the area now that this boat is finished. the guys around here are scrambling to build boats to out run me!!! including a 'glass 32 cell 'rigger!!!! i may be able to get one after the molds are finished, but it would take a lot of time for me to save up the $$$ for the hardware, batts, and motor!

BoatDoc
05-26-2004, 10:55 PM
arghhhhhhhhhh!!!!!!!!!!!! still no props!!! i called fine design today, and put another set on order. i probably won't get them before the holiday, though. i think the postal service is trying to mess up my fun!! they keep losing all of my stuff. 4 months of waiting since i started this puppy and the postal service has decided to make me wait longer. can you say "frustrating?"

BoatDoc
06-02-2004, 11:49 AM
YIPPEEEEEEEEEEEE!!! my props finally showed up!!!! now i've gotta balance and sharpen 'em. i ordered 6 different props so i can test 'em all out. hopefully i can get some action pic's up this week.

I'd like to see some action pics and am interested how much speed you get out of that blizzard! The guys from climate have almost got me talked into building a loaded up brushless banshee, but I still might start with a blizzard....depending on how yours goes...maybe you can lend some advice on props/cells/motor/etc...I like the idea of a 100mph electric!! what kind of runtimes are you getting on a charge?

BoatDoc
06-04-2004, 05:52 AM
here's a list of the props i'll be testing: X430,X432,1732,X427,Y531,X431. i've been told NOT to run more than approx 1min 10sec with the set up i've got. any longer and i can reach 185 degrees at the solder joints on the motor! the rest of the info is on the 1st page of this post. hopefully i'll have action pic's by sunday evening.

went and ran her today, i tried all the props. the results weren't that good. with my setup i need the rear sponsons to lift the rear of the boat. so i'll be adding them on and hopefully get a few good full speed runs soon.
