This is my first outboard that I have to hook a throttle cable up to. The other one I owned a while back was bought used & I don't own it anymore so I can't just go & look at it. I'm assuming it's a simple hookup, but I just need some more info. Anyway, if you guys could post some pics of the flex cable style throttle cable hookup so I can see just how to do it I'd appreciate it. A picture of both ends of the cable would help me greatly. This engine is an OS outboard but I know there are a lot of you guys with the K&B's too & the hookup should be the same. Thanks!

everybody has their own way!!!!

at the box just drill a hole and glue it in.

I like to use a small pice of copper tubing with fuel hose over it and the cable sleve with a little silicone. that way I can take it off if I have to.
I can post pics later this evening if you like.

Thanks - I knew someone would have some more info! I really need the radio box end too though. I want to clamp it as it enters the radio box, but if I have a pic it'll save me some trial & error trying to get it right. My servo is at the head of the radio box & I may have to move it to the back so I don't have to try & hold the sleeve still for any distance. I'm afraid if I leave too much slack hanging around it may not work right. Hey Ron, this is that boat I got from you, it's almost done. Just have to mount the fuel tank & then take everything apart so I can paint it. I machined up a K&B motor mount today on a mill so I can mount an OS to it.

I can post you a pic later tonight of how I did my box... But then again I am a newbie and this is my first tunnel boat... (JD WOF28) I think that once you get in the box all you have to do is run the sleeve as far as you can to get to the servo without affecting the arms throw. As long as it is 4-40 cable I really think it will be ok the cable should support/guide itself fine. If it doesn't work out you can always cut a small piece of wood to glue the inside of the box and the end of the cable sleeve in the box at the servo...

maybe i was tought the wrong way, but a 4-40 cable seems kinda big. i use the fine flex cable with no troubles as long as the ends are supported. i secure mine to the wall of the box where it exits, and i also use some sort of support within the box to keep the cable stiff (doesn't matter what...i just find something to use). just remember to use a good clamp on the motor end, and leave enough slack to let the motor turn. i usually make mine a little extra long just to be sure. i'm not familiar with the os outboards, so i don't know where you would clamp it on that end.

wow! i thought i held the record for "world's tightest radio box"!!! that looks like a tight fit. so, anyway...about putting a 502 into a yugo, do you think we could do it?!?!

In case you forgot, Yugo's don't float, Old style Beetles do :D
Where's Bugfanatic when I need him

hey... I might not be able to do it but I think you can rap the skin of anything around a full tube chassy... wheelie bars may be required!!!!!!

if you can build a radio box that tight...you may just be able to pull off a 502 yugo!! or maybe you could help me put a 427 into my '97 civic!!! he he he...i think i'd hurt myself!

I have to give Jerry Dunlap all the credit...
He is the man I am just following his directions!!!!
he may not approve of my stearing push rod seals though!!!!
They are a little in the rigged side if you know what I mean...

and you definitly can kiss your tail good-by with a 427!!!!
if it would work that would be a wicked front wheel drive burn-out!!!! :D

A 502 Yugo? I say do it. Yes, I have seen a VW float http://www.zarattini.com/maggiolino/maggiolino-sea/beetle-navigator.htm . That is one tight radio box. Thanks for the pics guys. I stopped by a hobby shop on my way home tonight & they actually had a throttle cable kit & I also got a cable clamp. I was still kinda stumped as to how I wanted to do the radio box end - but then I figured it out. I'll put some small wheel collars on each side of the radio box wall to hold it. Perfect. Now I just have to get it put on there.

The OS wasn't as easy to hook up, I had to make a custom aluminum bracket. The K&B has a bolt right there, handy for bolting up to, but the OS has a longer case & the bolts are at the back. Anyway, got it to work.
