hi guys, I'm back for this summer. I need a new set of tools. What do you think of hobbico precision tools. They are not expensive but are they good even with the low price or are they just not even worth it. Should I pay more for better et like dynamite machined or they are ok. I hate paying too much for tools.

Check out Integy's line of tools. They're reasonably priced and the quality is very good. Aluminum handles, replaceable tips, etc. I just bought a set and am really happy with them.

I am in Canada and shipping from USA will be too expensive. I gotta buy from www.greathobbies.com and the only kits they have is hobbico, AE, Losi, dynamite, duratrax

I have a duratrax set, which is the same as the hobbico set, and the quality is very poor. I would stick with the better sets. I personally like the dynamite ones for thier grip, and thier cheap price.

why do you say that the quality is poor,. is this because of the handle, the tip, the grip ? Will the handle slip when it should grip, will the tip break or strip, ?

The tips were too soft and striped easily. After using it once, wear was easily visible, and after using them to tighten pinions and metal parts, it completely stripped.

damn. this is worst than I thought. I wanted straight hex not ball hex. is this possible that stripped tips are caused by the ball shape of the hex ?

Possibly. You should avoid wrenches with ball tips. Because they are designed to rotate within the screw head the tolerance won't be as tight. That's why just about all the high-end wrenches have standard tips.

yeah, i tried the hobbico set to start with and the ones under 3mm imo are completely useless and will actually damage your screws the first time you use them. i had to buy a new swaybar and linkages because the hobbico 1.5mm stripped the screw so bad from the poor, loose fit, the first time i used it that i couldn't get the screw back out.

i picked up a set of racers edge power series metric hex drivers and love them more and more with every screw i turn. the tools have a very positive and snug engagement with the screw, keeping the screw and tool in great shape. if you applied really excessive force the tip would break off before it would strip the screw.

the ones i have are slightly more pricey than the dynamite but the shafts are twice as thick, and the tips are harder steel as well.

I had the duracrap ones two years ago. The smaller ones stripped out on the first screw I tightened, and one of the bigger ones stripped after a few screws, and the ball part broke off of the other when I was trying to loosen an engine mount screw. The rubber on the handels also wears off very quickly.

lol ok. I will get dynamite. Plus this summer i'll probably be building buggies, cars and trucks for my LHS for the inexperiendced modelers.

duracrap

Why must you call them this name? And also, how did the handles wear quickly? Unless you screwed 100000 screws, i am sure they handle wouldnt wear out.

Take a look at the Losi hex drivers-very nice.
Are Craftsman or Snap-On cheap?

Are Craftsman or Snap-On cheap?
Not really but Craftsman hand tools have a lifetime warranty so if you break it, and they can make out that it's a craftsman tool, they'll replace it. I took in a twenty year old rachet handle that just plain wore out which they replaced without question or hesitation. I think Snap-On is the same but since i don't work where the trucks come around i don't have any of their tools and don't know for sure about the warranty.

I have Losi, Bolink, AE, Dynamite and Trinity drivers. All I can say is don't skimp out on the basics- my trinty and losi ones are great. dynamites are nice too

You helped make my point, Fidelio. No Craftsman & Snap-On are not cheap.
You get what you pay for, especially in tools.
