I'll try and take some on friday, if it's nice, if I have time and I'm motivated...

BTW, it's my super that does about 45-50 right now, but with a new crank and 2 speed, the calculator says it'll do 85, but I'm thinking somewhere at least in the 70's.

Hi,

I have a dedicated web site for my car:

Extreme Speed Electrical RC Car (http://w1.877.telia.com/~u87744635/CarProjectWeb/)

Lots of images, and animations.

Take a look.

Very nice work.
may I ask how you modeled the spring, and gears? I'm modeling my project in SolidWorks 2004, and I'm still learning more everytime I open it up, but I just havn't figured out the springs. I know that it uses sweeps, but not much more after that. and for gears, I have a program called GearTrax, but I'm wondering if you have another way.
thanks

Hi,
thanks!

I did not do the springs nor gears. I try not to model stuff that area lready modelled by so many others. This includes screws, nuts, washers, and
gears, and springs, and ball bearings.

You can find these things all around the web.

I had a hard time finding metric gears, but finally found them in Sweden!

Do a search on google with gear CAD or similar and you will end up with many hits.
Most large companies have 3D model of their stuff.

I use CATIA for 3D CAD.

This was my project about a year ago. Bolink Eliminator + 14 cells + 16 turn tripple (I think) + microswitches for Go and Woah = 72.3 mph by a Michigan State PD's radar. On my second run, one of the tires blew apart and sent it went into the woods. I only found about half of it. :(

Only found half of the tire... or the car?

4W Drifter

half the car. chassis was in 3 pieces. Basically everything from the the rear pod and up was toast or missing. So somewhere in the woods near Whittall Rd. in Rockford Mi. there lies 2 servos, a reciever, a tire, a couple batteries and a few misc. front end parts. The motor survived though! Its currently in my RS4 Rally. lol :p

So... you were sitting in the copilot seat in a bud's 1/1 vehicle and he was following this thing on Whittall Road while you tried to keep it in the road... and then... without warning... WHAMMO... the tire blew apart and it went off through the trees?

Where's the video?

4W Drifter

Actually I was standing on the trunk of the PD cruizer (my G/Fs dad is a cop. thats how I got the exact speed). The road is about 3 feet higher than the woods to keep runoff from flooding the road. So when it went into the woods it didnt have any grass or anything to slow it down. At 70 mph, ANYTHING that hits an immovable object is toast. And if I was rich enough to have a digital video camera at the time (I was still in highschool at the time) I would have posted that run a long time ago.
...but if you dont believe me, thats fine too ;)

NotWalkinBlind
05-28-2004, 10:33 AM
I believe you... I was merely asking about the video because I'd love to see what your car looked like going that fast... and you're correct on the 70 mph + immovable object = toast... I'm sure the tree it hit lost a chunk, too.

NotWalkinBlind
05-28-2004, 10:38 AM
BTW... from the pic, it looks like 1/12th (judging by the battery size in relation to the chassis)... and I just don't remember whether Bolink made an Eliminator in 1/12th and 1/10th... am I correct?

Also... what body were you running... wing or no wing... and what gear ratio?

NotWalkinBlind

Why did you decide to put the receiver batteries up front?

4W Drifter
05-28-2004, 03:45 PM
It was 1/10th. The double-stacked batteries make it look smaller. The body is (was) the nascar style Cavalier and a wing was a nessesity. The wing came off my B2 but it was trimmed down so it would be less aggressive. The wires were either 8 or 10g but they still got almost hot enough to melt the insulation during a few tril runs! I wish I could tell you the gear ratio but the car (whats left of it anyway) is back home in MI and here in AZ for another year in college. I remember it was a little on the tall side to keep from lighting up the tires since it used microswitches. The reciever batteries were mounted up front because I ran out of room and didnt want to stack them and raise the CG any more.
Oh yeah and the tree(s) it hit? A small nick in the bark.

:D We've got a flat oval go-cart track at the fairgrounds one block away from my house. The track is asphalt and a very smooth 1/4 mile in length. Just for the fun of it, I'm going to test my car there, and see what kind of performance I can get out of it. CTS4, Sirio pro.21, 2.0 Pro-Line slicks, on 2.1 Traxxas rims with flat wheel covers, centax NTC3 clutch, Serpent shocks and coils, two speed HPI tranny(44tx42t with 16tx12t clutch bell)and might possibly go with 3 speed tranny. I've tested it in the high school parking lot, and got 85 mph out of it, with alot left over. I'm guessing(got to get it on the radar gun) it will hit 115mph on a 250ft straight. I've allowed more rebound space for the chassis/shock/springs to work with the total downforce of air at high speed. But even at 85 mph, it is quirky to control.http://www.radikarz.com/files/harley_show_1lspro.jpg

There is a website at www.virtualcad.com that has a ton of free 3D cad drawings. Lots of stuff like nuts & bolts, rod ends, etc. available in a multitude of formats.

I'm curious about what CAD programs people here are using. I've been using TurboCAD since V2. If anyone is using that program and runs into a problem shoot me an e-mail and I'll be glad to help. I've been helping people for years.

Cheers,
Mike

its a proline peterbilt truck shell for the E/T maxx....mounted over my king hauler.
rears are ofna 2.2 truck wheels and proline speed hawgs. fronts are schumacher buggy wheels with proline "wide" buggy tires.
controlled via a futaba skysport 4ch FM radio.

glad you like it..... :D

That turbine car looks mad Eddie! Wonder if the gearing will be low enough but I guess you still have a lot of time to test... Looks like you have a well equipped workshop, helps a lot in these kind of projects!

Like the 'singapore truck' as well, nice paintjob!

Some really cool cars emerging!

yes they're off the rear of a T4! haha i know..its sick but what to do, its the only thing that i could find that was that tall....i did consider soldering a tube standoff for the rear wing but i'm sure it wouldn't survive a rollover,(which by the way i managed to do...TWICE!!
