Hey guys I live in arizona, and I want to have an off road toy. I was looking at the Tmax monster truck. But I wonder if a buggy would be better?
I don't plan on racing it and any event, I just want to go tear some **** up.
Are buggies faster than trucks? We have a sandy rocky terrain, which makes me feel the monster truck would be better. Any suggestions.

ussually monster trucks and buggies are around the same speed. buggies can be a bit more expensive but there pretty evenly matched. both will do good in a sandy dirt. id say, go for what looks better two you. wheelies are funner with mt's if you got the power to get them to. id look into the savage or xtm mammoth if your looking for a mt. or ofna and sportwerks if you decide on a buggy. ofna has some nice buggies for only 300-350 rtr. after market is huge for the tmaxx, but the xtm mammoth already has alot of them things that youd be getting aftermarket for a tmaxx. the size of the 1/8th monster trucks is just awesome. there huge. imho id say go with a monster truck, but really thats only like 55% mt 45% buggy. i like them both quite equally but mt's are funner to bash with

Monster Trucks are a joke!
Get a 1/8th scale Buggy. You'll have more fun and less headaches!

Buggies have more power and are very fun. I have a Tmaxx and a Hyper 7 PBS and if they were both stock I would rather drive the buggy anyday. The acceleration is awsome and they jump really good. Plus they are very durable. But, they are more expensive and If this is your first nitro a buggy isn't the best choice but it is not one you will regret. Whatever you get take your time on break in, it will pay off later.
Keep in mind buggies have alot less ground clearance.

htey may have same or even less power ( legal ones have "only" .21 ) when alot of monsters these days have .25-.26 but they weight much less my buggy is about 3,5kg while my friends monsters are about 5kg or more

I have one of each, the buggy is more of a no brains toy, the monster truck needs money to make it fast.
buggy will do good in every kind of terrain except, extremely sugar sand, and grass that is taller than 5 or 6"
I have a ofna ultra mbx pro. = great begining nitro car, eazy to work on, not too expensive either, out of the box, it needs a fm radio, and a high torque steering servo, then your golden.
I later got a associated monster gt, I love it, its my baby and its my money pit, I put in a picco werks .26 180$ and now it runs like a bat out of hell,
you cant go wrong, with a buggy or a monster, stay away from duratrax tho, they seem ok price, but crap monster trucks and buggys.

you said that you're going to be driving it on rocky terrain...in that case go for the monster truck. i'd recomend the savage
for the terrain you stated, a monster truck probably would be the best. Personally, I am a buggy man by heart, but terrain considerations are important as well.

Ok, just get the one YOU want. It is your car and you are the only one who has to like it. ;)

if you like the t-maxx, maybe wait for the stadium maxx, its the same thing cept 2wd. id say since it has less tranny drag itd be faster, and easier to pop teh wheelies with

OR... Take a look at the new Ofna Blazer 'truggie'. A little of both, with smaller tires & bigger tires included. Its not quite out I guess, but it looks interesting... I may get one. :)
See in the 'New Stuff' forim.

A gs sut(storm unlimited truck) is in that price range and its a good truggy made from the storm 1/8 buggy. The pro version without radio and motor will be released soon as well.

How about wait for the REVO. It should be out soon, and it looks like it combines light weight and maneuverability with great suspension and high ground clearance. It also looks like it fixes a lot of the T-Maxx's problems (weak drivetrain, bad steering servo, etc). If you can't wait, then get a Savage. Either way, I'm sure you will love your new RC vehicle. :D

I like them both, but if the terrain is rough/rocky, I'd lean towards a truggie like a Dominator or GS sut, or a monster truck like a Savage or MGT. Buggies generally are faster and built like brick poophouses, but lack the ground clearance needed for serious off-road bashing. It depends on what you're running on. Personally I'd look elsewhere than a Maxx truck - just my .02.

For the terrain that you have suggested, then a 1/8 monster is what you would want and not a 1/10 monster or 1/8 buggy.......

forget all the 1/8 scale stuff and go get yourself a 1/5 scale FG Marder buggy, it'll eat anything for breakfast, i've been doing 10-20 feet jumps with mine and it just takes it in it's stride (and yes that's 10-20 feet in height) it loves it, as soon as it's videoed it'll be upped and linked here
