Should the 1/12 miss bud use a different fuel than standard car/truck engines? Does there need to be a higher lubricant content for marine engines?

just make sure that you have at least 12-15% oil in the fuel. i know some car fuels are down at 10% and that's not enough. you can also get additives for fuel to increase the oil content. i've got another type of fuel with 20% oil, but none of my engines like it much. if i remember correctly if you're around the 15% mark, you're good. the fuel i use in mine is trinity monster horsepower with 30%nitro. i don't know the oil content, but the engine ran very well on it.
I run blue thunder 30% in my bud and it loves it.I have been using it for three years with no problems.

Cool thanks for the replies. Im not sure aobut a couple things though. Im a little worried about break in since Ive never driven a boat I was thinking it would be a little tougher to do. Any suggestions? Is there anything else I should do to prep the boat before running that the manual doesnt cover? Thanks
Carl
You should be good to go.Just dont run the engine to long out of the water and take a few spare glow plugs with you.You might want to take a freind to give it a flat toss to help it get on plane and watch your fingers around the prop.Follow the manal and you will have a blast.Oh ya and dont turn it to the left to fast or it will spin out.I love mine its a fun little boat. One more thing after a few times to the pond you should pull the prop shaft and grease it.Follow the manual for doing this it is very easy.Have fun

run a search on the forum, or just take a look around, most of your questions have already been answered, plus a few that you will be asking in the future! there's a lot of good advice to be found.

I've got R/C up the Wazoo. 7 boats, 2 nitro trucks currently plus crashed a lot of planes in my almost 30 years of R/C-ing.
Too many people buy the Miss Bud for just the reason that you just gave and don't have a clue as to what they're doing then come crying to us because they can't get the POS to run. You have a friend that can help you as he already has one.

I have seen alot of what you have said in all my research before I bought the boat but overall I beleive this is gonna be a good starter boat for me. But then again the miss bud is so enticing to beginners becuase of its looks and rtr appeal that I would have to expect them to constantly be on the boards asking for help. Im sure there are alot of 'newbies' that have problems with the boat that an expiereinced r/c hobbyist could easily overcome. What would you recommend as a starter boat for under $300 that comes RTR?

A Nitro Hammer :D It has all of the Buds perks, without the problems.

nitro hammer's just have a different set of problems. that's why mine so modified!! every time it broke, i just changed it! same way with my bud.

Maybe, but it's easier to modify a Hammer than it is a Bud

Plus easier to run, especially in rougher water. Another one is the CEN Racing Aqua Jet.
Most RTR or RTF boats have their quirks, most props that come with them are junk so that's the first change that I'd make.

Whats the best prop for a miss bud? I dont really expect a $300 boat from pro boat or cen or any other company not to have its downsides or common problems, Its alot of machine at a reasonable price.
