Moderator please don't move this over to the radio forum. I want to hear from sailplane pilots ONLY.
I have been expanding my sailplane fleet. My Hitec Prism 7X is starting to become a limitation. I am about to order a Futaba 9C. I seem to read good things about the 9C but am specifically interested in the opinion of sailplane pilots. Those I have read so far have been good.
Recommendations for other radios are of no interest. I am asking about the 9C and the experience of sailplane pilots with this specific radio.
I am in my second season of flying. Have about 200 launches with sailplanes and 200 parkflyer launchs.
I am flying two 2 M RES planes and just launched my first 3M full house. Just finished a Zagi 3C combat wing slope glider. Will probably add others including an e-powered or two.
I expect to be doing mostly sport flying and club TD contests. I will be entering my first Eastern Soaring League event this June and again in September so I may get more into contest flying as time goes on but am not looking to invest in a 12 channel professional radio system.
So, 9C seems a good choice to me and, while it stretches my budget, I think it has what I need to take me well down the road. Opinions?
Second, my Hitec Prism 7X will probably be moved over to primarily be used with my parkflyers but I would also like to use it as a buddy box on the 9C. I see there is a buddy cord that has both the square and round connectors. I have read in the past that Hitec and Futaba radios can be used in a buddy arrangement. Opinions or experiences would be welcome.
