Are there any advantages of the SS over the RTR? I read the specs on them, and I only see a couple of differences. Shocks- plastic or nylon. Clutch- the SS has a two shoe, and the RTR has three shoe. Would'nt the three shoe be better?

if you have a good radio and enjoy pull-starting, get the ss. if you don't, get the rtr. the upgrades the rtr has outweigh the ones the ss has. the stock radio is decent. the one drawback is the brakes are harder to adjust with the linkage than with a fancy radio.

If you want to build it yourself then obvioulsy get the SS. yes the 3 shoe is better than the 2 shoe. Go to www.hpiracing.com and you can read and see the differences between the 2 trucks

I will still lean towards getting a kit rather than an RTR.......First, you will have first hand knowledge of the assembly of the chassis. This is important during later stages when you need to maintain the chassis and trouble shoot mechanical failures. Second, you will be familar (visually) with required hop-ups or spares at the LHS (Dont expect the assistant of the LHS to know every part.....:D). Last, you will be assured that the screws are place with TLC and with the required threadlock.

i think the "you have to build it" argument in favor of the ss doesn't mean a lot. the rtr needs to be torn down immediatley anyway, for the mods and to make sure it was put together properly. there is no such thing as an rtr; well, unless you bought your rc truck at toys r us.

about an hour after the brown santa dropped off my rtr, i had it in pieces. i also ordered all the mods tower had in stock. the sticker on top of my .25 is still there. the stock body and wheels and tires are unused, and will stay that way. my truck was fully modded before i ever tried to fire the xtm .247. some will argue that i should have just gotten the ss, but i liked the things the rtr came with better. also, i didn't have a 3 channel radio. besides, the truck was $399 from tower. the ss wasn't cheaper enough to make up the difference. yeah, it was a little unsettling to spend $1200 on the truck before i ever started it, but the tax man was nice enough to deliver my refund when i was ready to get the truck.

The RTR versions has more advantages over the ss and you dont have to worry about buying much separately. It comes with a good radio, a rotostart (sooo much nicer than pullstart), a 3 shoe clutch, a better primerless gas tank, and a prepainted body. The only things that the ss has that the rtr doesnt is hd dogbones and a ribbed pipe. It'd cost more to replace all the stuff the rtr comes with than to just add on the hd dogbones (or you could go with something better), and the ribbed pipe.

Does the rtr have the adjustable upper arms? The ss does. The pre-painted body isn't always a plus some people like to paint there own bodys.
