hey guys im having a problem with my T, and im starting to hate it. i got my first one, motor burnt out on like the 3rd run. got a new one, then the esc went out on that one, and i replaced it, also with a new team orion micro core. it ran fine for a while, now the friggen motor wont work unless you spin it by hand to get it goin???? do i need new brushes or somethin on the motor?

is this truck better than the rc18t
losi racer13
07-04-2005, 05:01 PM
in some cases yes. i kill other 18t's racing onroad and im brush and they run brushless but in the straights they beat me cuz theyre faster motors, but i outhandle them and i can go full speed around turns without wurrying about spining out. i would recommend getting a minit pro and get all the good stuff for it,

me and my brother have been running our mini-t's for a while now on our back yard track. It's wicked fun and we're going to get some 1200mah 6cell Orion batt packs. Are these good batteries for the price? I found them for $15 at stormer hobbies.
I've also noticed that the steering has a lot of slop or play. is the only way to get rid of this by buying aluminum steering components or is it the stock servo and its servo saver? Along with that, would the Hitec hs55 or the Airtronics servo (I forget the numbers) plug into and work with the stock rx/esc unit? A new rx and esc are too much money for me
One more question. I'm thinking about getting a new motor. Which is better performance-wise: trinity Mass Termination, Orion Baja, or Epic "faster"? or any other motor on that note. Unfortunately, brushless motors would cost me my wallet and more...
Thanx

had this same problem, and found out that you need to pull the brushes out and dust the inside with a cotton Q-tip/ear-cleaner. Dust gets between the brushes and the comm, so you end up with this problem

so, i guess the question is, what's everyones fav. servo saver? thanks ppl

I've already bought the Batt packs, they're in the mail now and i can't wait. I've also decided that if I buy a motor, it'll the be trinity mass termination. But I've heard that you need a metal pinion gear for aftermarket motors. (and even if you don't I'll just buy one for safe keeping). Would Micro RS4 pinions work the T? specifically this one (http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&W=000389031&I=LXBGE7&P=K) ?

Radio-Acer...Trinity makes good steel pinions.
Radio Acer
07-15-2005, 03:22 PM
Yeah, I looked at those pinions on tower. It was 4 of 'em for $17 or something like that. wicked expensive compared to pinions made for the RS4, that's why i was wondering. And plus, I'm not going to do any hardcore racing or anything. Just bashing.

Hey i just got my mini t i ran it with aa batteries... everything is still stock... what can i get to increase speed / performance?
HammerTime2K4
07-18-2005, 05:43 PM
I got a rechargeable battery pack and saw a big increase of speed. My cousin got the Losi upgraded motor, and he didn't see the same performance change that I did with the battery pack...
If you really want performance, and wanna drop a buncha money into it...go brushless...CRAZY speed!

07-18-2005, 09:40 PM
Baja-Destroyer- for that price go brushless.
Brian23- the more cells (batterys) the faster it will be. stock is 4 cells. go buy some 6 cells from target or walmart & make a 6 cell pack or buy one already made up for like $20-$30. adding more cells will give you the biggest increase in speed. Adding top of the line cells will be even better (GP or KANS cells)

electronic speed controller- A type of speed control which regulates the speed by PWM. This method of control is highly efficient and results in smooth, proportional throttle control, greater speed and longer run time.

Radio Acer
07-19-2005, 09:55 PM
If you still have the stock shocks on your mini-t then you know what friction shocks are: tubes with springs. You might've also noticed that your mini-t'll bounce a lot or bottom out when you jump it.
Oil shocks will solve both those problems. They'll prevent the bounce by smoothing out the whole process, and they'll also slow down the movement of the shocks a little, preventing the bottoming out. And they're called oil shocks because they are filled with oil inside and when the piston moves up and down, the oil moves through it, either faster or slower depending on what weight oil you put in. Smaller weight=faster piston movement Larger weight=slower piston movement.
I just ran my mini-ts with the new battery packs, all i have to say is this  holly.... these are fast

Legend_Car
07-20-2005, 10:46 AM
there should be instructions with the kit but other wise you put the spacer over the top of the shocktower were were the shock goes then the shock then the plastic nut. the at the bottom you screw the bottom of the shock between the a arm

bearings make it easier for the wheels to sping they are much better than the stock bushings my friends bushings were warped when he replaced them with bearings 100% YES get ball bearings
pedeman
08-03-2005, 02:40 PM
bearings are the best!!! it "slides" really smooth and i think it increases speed and acceleration. yes buy them, they are a great investment for, what, $8? i have them on all 3 of ours.
HammerTime2K4
08-03-2005, 03:28 PM
Bearings = Less Friction
Less Friction = Betterness (ya...it's a word)
When you put bearings in your truck, power isn't lost where those bearings are. Bushings, the stock parts where you will put the bearings, do not allow the 'thing' that is around it move as smoothly. Such as the front wheels. It doesn't take as much power to move it. There isn't as much drag as there is with bushings.
They are a pretty cheap upgrade. It's almost like upgrading from stock plugs to Deans. There isn't a whole lot of performance upgrade, but there isn't the power loss like there is with stock connectors. Same basic idea with bearings and bushings...

I have a question. I find the Mini-T is too small for a 1/18s, it is like a 1/20s or smaller. A 1/18s body should be about or bigger than the size of a micro touring because it is a truck body, isn't it?

You can buy me the GT if you want. i got a hot motor to run it with to! i just got the Trnity 17 turn pro motor. but my xrs fried. and then i bought a new xrs, solderd the deans on they cut the wires to i can solder them directly to the motor and when i went to go push the butten in to set it up and it got stuck in there...so i figure ill send it into novak, i do and they sent a letter back claiming it not being warrentied wich kinda sucked.

I want to get the mamba competition motor but i dont want to run lipos. so will 6 cell nimh cause cogging?
HammerTime2K4
08-28-2005, 03:35 PM
I am running 6-cell 1100 GP battereies with my 8000 KV and I get cogging every once in a while. I am able to run quite a bit, and have a lot of fun even when it does cog. Usually it cogs, I have to stop pulling the throttle, give it a second, then I can move again like there is no problem. This probably happens once every 10-15 accelerations (stop - full throttle). I can deal with it, cause the price of lipos and charger is just too much...

I'm not certain...but I think the packs are $30-$40 a piece and a charger is $125-$150...

nitro_newbie
08-28-2005, 05:08 PM
or maybe run a 7 or 8 cell wouldnt that give it more voltage and reduce the cogging or is it just cuz it is less voltage. also why would a 2s lipo give the motor more speed cuz isnt it around the same voltage so what would be the differnce since i am kinda new to electrics.

Absolutely will not cog IF 1) GP's are used and 2) the latest firmware is present in the Mamba ESC. I flashed my ESC using the USB Link and the latest download from Castle, and all cogging issues went away. I leave my "starting power" on Medium now. I also run a 5-cell GP2000 batt and all is well.

i say go with the team orion big block, its a nice upgrade from stock and u can use a stock pinion on it, but if you get the baja it would strip the mesh pinions. The sound is prolly the mesh between the pinion and the spur, try remeshing it to quiet it down, also the stock motor and the big block make louder noise. the baja is quiet. i got a trinity 17 turn pro wich is insanely fast but needs an after market esc to use it.

I'm running a Airtonics 94091 and it works pretty well...And if you order the Mamba brushless set-up, it comes with an ESC to run the motor.
I'm using Novak's XXL and I like it. I haven't had any troubles with it...
I have the 8000kv Mamba and it's a lotta power. I've lost quite a bit due to AL upgrades. The power was almost too much with the plastic...but I'd rather have too much than not enough...
I don't know about radios...I've been using the same Magnum for as long as I've been in the hobby...don't really see a need to upgrade...

So, I haven't bought a new RC since 1992 could'nt see plunking down $300+ for a TC figured mini was the way to go.
Ordered a Mini-t Pro from a hobby shop in CT. by way of E-Bay on Sunday box arrives superfast on Wednesday, perfect shape, factory sealed, thinking man this is gonna be a hoot.
I have no electronics and such to run this little rocket yet so I've been painting up a couple bodies and such. Today I figure its time to fill the shocks and generally check things out. I pull the motor and spin the rear tires, doesn't feel like its spinning as free as my 1/10 scale ST's.
So I proceed to tear into the transmission, and lo an behold what do I find ? There is a bearing missing from the top shaft
Hi side of this experience, I didn't have the electronics on hand to run the new toy so no damage done. I just have to get some bearings now.

That right there is your best bet, it goes from the front of the servo hold-down to the back of the front cap where the shock tower mounts; exactly where the frame collapses in half. If you were to get a carbon fiber conversion then you would want this anyways, because the weak point in all conversion frames is that aluminum piece between the front section and the rest of the frame.

What you have there is the underground end all be all of aftermarket frames, in my opinion. Not only is it extremely tough (elevated edges+two tier design=no torsional or longitudinal flex. Not to mention it's aluminum.) But it's also light to boot. As well as being complete front to rear with high quality hex-head screws, and a tapper screw for plastic. If I could afford it I would definetely get it.
Sorry, I don't actually own this chassis, but I have heard alot about it across the internet.

http://www.one18th.com/7849Gallery.htm ya I like to paint!
Either way that chassis looks sick!!! And for 71.00 beans, you really can't go wrong! I like the current wheelbase length but it doesn't say by how muc the extended that chassis.
Either way if anyone is interested I have some sweet looking mini-t lids that I just finished painting. I tried selling them on ebay but no takers. IF you are interested just drop me an email and I would be happy to negotiate a cheap but fair price.

Sorry forgot to mention; I currently run the stock ESC and servo, but I switched my motor to a Venom Fireball 370 size can, and have used 7.2 volts, 9.6 volts, and 7.2 (3300NiMH) on this ESC. It has not shut down on me nor had it done anything funny. I can't believe how much abuse this little ESC can take!!!!!!!!!!!! I'm waiting for my K4 400 tuned motor from www.unitedrc.com, to arrive to see what that does.

well guys I got to try my Mini T , w/ the mamba 6800.. running them with a 2c 1900 Lipo all I can say is WoW.. that little thing just screams.. one question for you what's the best way to get the slop out of my steering.. seems like the right wheel is so loose but does track straight down straight. even if it up on two wheels most of the way..

i was wondering.is there any reason you cant use receiver packs in the mini t?i know they are 6 volt but i have a few extras and that would mean more running..and i know you would have to change the end.but if you guys think they would work ill make an adaptor.

I've got a Mamba 6800 and 3 cell lipo pushing the Mini.
I've been running a MIP ball diff tightened all the way down and backed off a 1/4 turn. Slipper tightened all the way down backed off 1/2 turn. Is anybody else running this diff?
The diff is good for 2 packs and then the whole thing just goes south.
Is there a better BB diff or is my setup bad. I tried to back off the diff a little more but that wouldn't get me going. The diff is pre-assembled should I be adding a little lube to help basically the whole diff looks melted down.
I'm loving the speed but I'm wandering if the 3 cell is just to hot for that diff if I have to go to a 2 cell I will.
Thanks to all takers.

Someone earlier on the thread said this;

I have also seen this;

but I would guess it would handle badly with the two cells sticking out the sides. And I don't even know if that would work with a stock chassis.
P.S Ignore the "`"s, they are just for spacing

I don't think you need a custom chassis for either. I think you may have to remove some of the raised edges on the stock chassis or somehow solder the two cells on an upward angle to accomodate the 2nd configuration.

I've got a problem with my mini....I looked through most of this post and found some discussion but no answer. I lost the pinion gear set screw wrench, now the scerw is stripped from jamming stuff in there trying to get it out, now it's off how do I mount it back on?
Thanks

You don't need a custom chassis for either. With the two cells sticking out the sides, you just need battery bars to angle the extra cells. I think Team Helotes(go to one18th.com for a link) sells 8 cell packs.
T3--The only thing I can think of is to grind a flat spot on the pinion so some of the set screw can protrude and you can grip it with pliers or something after you grind flat spots on the set screw too. That is all I can think of.

I have a quick question. Awesome T baja. I am looking at buying a Mamba for christmas, i know its early but, What should i uprade. Im looking at the Airtronics MX-3 I dont know about what size mamba. I am going to be racing. So my question is what mamba should i buy, and what steering servo. Will i need drive train upgrades?
Baja-Destroyer
10-31-2005, 05:12 PM
i dunno about the drive so much i have the pro so it came with the slipper and all that good stuff but i think it would be a good idea to get the pro drivetrain and i have the mamba 6800 its plenty of power and servo i have is hs-55 but i would not recomend it, its a good servo but seems to lack power and its plastic gears i think i may get this one > http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXN679&P=7 and for mx3 ive never used one i hear there good tho

racing t- i dunno about the other mamba motors and what they eat but with that battery and my 6800 setup i last prolly close to 2x longer than my friends team losi mini t 1100mah pack and reedy motor but i think overall with any battery the mamba is very efficient and legend get the ball diff and the slipper and the cvds too that will hold up nicely with a mamba 6800 or less i dont know about the 8000 and what it does to drivetrains and if ur upgrading from the stock esc/reciver u have to get a new servo as well id get the one i posted up top hope this helps u guys
