what klind of racing can you do with these cars? I know there's dirt oval but i can't seem to find any tracks with this kind of format...
where are you looking??? Some areas have all sorts of mini action going. I can find outdoor dirt oval, offroad, indoor carpeted oval, offroad and even onroad.....I happen to live in the Northeast. (metroNYC) None of it is super close but about 50-150 miles away.....

i have sort of a poll for people with a mini-t. What kind of plug do you use from the battery to the ESC (deans, deans mini, stock, other, etc.)

deans ultra....is there any other kind of plug??? :D
the deans ultra is a zero loss plug.....just as good as a solid connection.....

thank you! also my personal favorite, who else?
I am sure this has been dicussed, but I am too lazy to go through 41 pages.
What would be the better choice for all new electronics for a Mini-T. Would upgrading the electronics mean I would have to get a new radio?
Thanks

if you havent purchased a mini-t yet, buy the mini-t pro. That way you can buy new radio equipment and not pay for the crap they give you....plus the pro kit is all hopped up!

i dont think the mini t comes in kit form. I got mine rtr at Boyz toys. They have great service- when my servo stripped they replaced it for free. And they gave me free e clips when i lost some of mine of my rear aluminum A arms. They have GREAT SERVICE
Brian23

And also i just orded some things for my mini t that i hvae been waiting to get forever. I ordered yellow Gpm titanium turnbuckles. Losi oil filled shocks and 25 20 30 wt oils (what should i used for front/back)? and wheel bearings. My orion motor seems really slow to me. Now i have a question. Im going to be puttiong the mamba 6800 kv in my mini t. Can i put the synthasised MINI LST radio in my mini t. I like it because its relatively cheap- fm- and synthatsised.
Brian23

Does anyone know a good fm reciever or one they are using for their mini t with a mamba sized reciever
will standered reciever work because mamba esc is so small?

My mods to mine so far:
Tazer 15t Speed control(forward/reverse)
Raider Peak Racing motor
R135 FM 3ch receiver(it was on hand when the stock receiver went out on me)
EFlite servo(it fits perfectly, just glued the mounting pieces onto the servo case, and its the only servo to take the rough handling)
Redid servo saver(metal plates for rub point instead of the original plastic that it came with)
Home made thin aluminum bar for stearing link(the bar that runs across to join the left and right arms together, the slop is mostly caused by that bar and I broke the old one)
2c LiPo 1000Mah
Team Losi Oil shocks(25w front,30w rear)
Pink springs front, silver rear
Ball diff
CV axles
Dual disc slipper
Custom painted body(looks sortof like the General Lee, first time with airbrush in about a year, so it came out pretty good)
It gave a larger electric a run for its money before I blew out the diff somehow. Still haven't figured out how I did it, but I need to get a new ball diff now. LHS should be open tomorrow. Also have a REVO, but you can't beat a MiniT when you want to run at lunch, no fuel and minimal cleanup when done.

Novak xrs Esc
Dean Connecters
gp1100s
trinity 17t pro motor
green springs in rear
pink in front
40wt oil all around
ball diff
Ti turnbuckles
heatsinked motor plate

i installed my bearings- one was lost in the lhs and now i have 7 bearings in the car and one bushing in place lol- i cant seem to find single bearings for sale. I also installed losi oil filled shocks- and integy universal driveshafts- and titanium turnbucks- and lastly an Mip ball diff. I tried out the mini t in the basement and it revs supper high when i got WOT but it only moves a bit. The slipper isnt slipping so im guesingg its the diff? I can hold both wheels, give it throttle and the spur/pinion still go? What should i do?

Brian23
06-15-2006, 06:26 PM
how do i tighten the ball diff
teampeter
06-18-2006, 05:37 PM
If you stick an allen key or driver in the ball cup (which one depends on the way you installed it) you should be able to tighten the screw in there. Just hold the other outdrive while you tighten it. Hold up.... didn't you build that ball diff? If so, it's just like building it. You tighten the screw you put the thrust bearing on.
If it's not the diff, the wheels may be loose or you may have lost the drive pins or sumthin.
Brian23
06-25-2006, 12:41 PM
yes i built it but i thought the screw was just to hold it together- not tighten it. i did tighten it now but i cant seem the keep the drive cups straight

Yesterday my mini-t started to steer really slow and sometimes it got stuck when it was all the way to the left. So I drive it today and it doesn't turn at all. I checked the servo and everything seemed to be fine, I don't know whats wrong can someone help me before I waste 15 bucks on a new servo.
Thanks in advance.
DarkSavage
06-30-2006, 03:26 PM
Is it the stock servo? if it is its going to keep breaking on you. those motors in them are very weak and they tend to break easily so thats why i upgraded my electronics.
balang_479
07-01-2006, 07:17 PM
Upgrading the electronics is costly for just a servo upgrade,, you should check if the servo works correctly,
then see if the sterring system is smooth, no friction and see if it locks at full swing, it might bind somehwhere at full turn and the servo will have not enough power to un-stuck it. The servo is not bad for sucha light car so im sure itll be fine
marinearmenibro
07-02-2006, 10:38 AM
Well im going to buy a new servo anyways. What one would you suggest or should I just re-buy the stock one?
teampeter
07-02-2006, 08:42 PM
Brian, you have to unscrew it and screw it back on, it is not screwing in straight. The manual thing says to put it into the tranny before you put the screw in, that may make it easier, I just struggled with till I got it.

You should check your batteries. If your using the stock pack with AA's, they might be old and may not have much juice in them. If you're using a rechargeable, make sure it's fully charged. Maybe recharge it or check if it works in the RC18MT. Normally when the battery is low, this happens.
If the batteries are fine, I'd make sure nothing is wrong with the drivetrain, axles, bushings, or if there is any binding.

Even with the same batter at me RC18MT it is just as slow. I disconnected the servo and the wheels turn free. There is no binding at all. And with no load, the servo still turns very slowly. I'll try to post a video of it later tonight. Thanks guys.

Also, I was thinking of getting this motor for my Mini-T:http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXHXW2&P=7. I was wondering if anyone knew if it would work with the stock ESC/Reciever?

Even if it's the same battery, is it charged? Try the stock AA pack so we can rule out any chance that it's the car, not battery.

Try not to double post, its called spanning and many people have been banned for it. I ask you to stop asking the same question over and over again, especially if you have already had it answered.
As for the motor, I would suggest a Losi Speed Motor. Its a low priced motor with a fair amount of extra speed (compared to stock). I had it and loved it, but I broke mine when I tried to put a pinion on. I would get another, but TowerHobbies doesn't supply them and I'm planning on making an order with other stuff from them and rather only make a single order.
That is why I'm asking if the Monster Termination Motor works with the stock controls.

I have no idea. My guess is that it is faster, but may have shorter run times. But thats besides the point of the post....

NitroMaxx,
Dont know much about the Epic motors but:
I like the Beast Raptor motor from one18th.com, not sure if they make them anymore or not. I also like Orian's Baja motor and Trinity's Termination motors (3 different motors Termination, Mass Termination, and Monster Termination).
I am asuming like the Epics they range in fast to fastest.....Just make sure you use the correct pinion with the appropriate motor and you will see a good speed increase....as well a a run time decrease though.

pretty much any mod motor will work. Just make sure you gear down a bit. Like put a bit of a smaller pinion gear on. And make it a bit smaller.

Forget that, for too MUCH power, get the Competition X Mamba package with a new Li-Po battery! You can't even go 1/8 throttle without a wheelie!
(Not cheap, though)

I can't afford to switch all of my electronics out right now, so I decided to just grab another Losi Speed Motor. I need a motor right now so that I can use my Mini-T. I am definitely going to go brushless in my Maxx, XXX-S, and Mini-T, just not right now.

Do all of these motors slide into place with no modifications to the chassis?
And, how much motor can the stock ESC handle?
I don't know much about the Mini's except that when I bought a Trinity 1200 pack and ran it for the first time, it was a totally different vehicle! Now I want to see what a mod motor will do.

I have a Beast Raptor motor in mine and a Baja motor in my wife's....both motors are pretty fast and I am still using the stock ESCs. I do think I need to run smaller pinions in them to get more speed though.
I have an aftermarket motor plate on mine and If I remember right, my wife's has the stock motor plate.................I do think most "hotter" brushed motors require a new motor plate though.

unless you plan going straight alot ,using a wheelie bar and staying onroad do not bother with the competition x(8000kv) too much power, you won't be able to enjoy it properly without spinning out.The competition (6800kv) pakage is more than enough

What electronics are you using? Make sure they are the same in each truck. I think the RC18T will have an advantage over the Mini-T. With 4wd, the 18t will go over anything. Of course, my Mini-T does have a freakish ability to rock crawl; no joke. Keep us updated on the tests, I wanna see who wins!

Hopefully, ill be getting a Mini-T for x-mas. Can anyone reccomend a nice but cheap charger and battery packs? Keep in mind ill just be driving it for fun around the house and ETC, so i dont need anything with tons of juice or etc.

I have an MRC Super Brain http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXAVN1&P=ML and Tenergy batteries http://www.all-battery.com/index.asp?PageAction=VIEWPROD&ProdID=890. I dont think there is a nicer charger for that price and you cant beat the price of those batteries. In my experience Tenergy battery packs have worked just as good and probably better than other cheaper brands.

I just dont come around much anymore. me and a friend have built and rebuilt a mini track in their barn over the past couple weeks. i would post the pics i've got but you cant really see much because it was bright outside. the barn is fully lighted, running water and electricity. it is about 30x50 or so, with around 1/2 of it concrete and the other 1/2 is dirt.

I am looking to put a Mini-T track in my yard. I have been thinking about 20'x40' with 4-5 foot lanes, drained, lights, trackside power, drivers stand, etc. We play with our 6 stock box Mini-T's, except added a 5cell pack.
Is it a decent size track? Right now we are using a portion of our blacktop driveway which is about 30'x50' and seems to be a bit big.

30x50 is a perfect size IMO, there are 4 doubles, a step up, whoops, 2 triples, and a S turn section. it also has one single. it is a fun track, the lanes are about 3 or 4 cars wide i'd say.

Hey guys, im new to the mini-t world and i just got a used one. it has a baja motor is that any good? also doesn't have a battery pack, would any one off ebay work or one with 8.4v, how many cells? It still has the stock esc/rx the only other thing is right now the steering servo doesn't work, but i dont know if it's the servo or the wire or the esc. any suggestions on how to test for that? i guess i also plan on getting bearings if that helps with the wobbly tires and then maybe oil shocks. just wondering, what can i get this up to speedwise if i but a mamba it it? thanks for the help
t9dragon
03-07-2007, 02:23 AM
Does it have the ESC/RX combo?
RControl Freak
03-07-2007, 06:53 PM
yeah, the baja is decent, one of my friends has it in a rc18mt. As for the servo, I'm not sure if there's anyway to check it. You may want to consider just getting a new one, if the old one's stock! Check out some of the hitec micros!
As for the wheel problem, if I recall correctly, the mini-t has dog bones, and you have to make sure that you get the wheel correctly lined! Still, if you're serious about speed, then bearings are a must!
(I wouldn't be so hasty to bolt in that mamba, 'cause my friend was dumb enough to combo it with a lipo, and he's selling the lipo now, too much power....) And on a tire note, if you run onroad a lot, or on carpet, you may want to consider foamies, they last a long time, and are alot lighter then rubber tires!
revodude14
03-07-2007, 07:35 PM
ok thanks. yes i have looked over everything and the servo doesnt move with power so for now ill assume the servo is the problem but i think you have to get a new esc to run an aftermarket servo. it does have dogbones in the back but it was used so i know the bushings cause the problem. now im almost 100% sure i won't race it but rather bash/ jump so i might get dirt hawgs or the rc18mt tires with a mamba or quark?( 5600 6000 or 8000?). I just want to bash and have street appeal of it going wickedly fast. not sure about aluminum or graphite since i dont care how it looks, but i dont want to weight it down or spend big bucks (no titanium or alum). mainly looking for durability and speed. btw, how would this compare to a rc 18 as far as speed, with the fastest mamba, 65 mph?
RacerST
03-07-2007, 10:21 PM
So far I have installed oil filled shocks and bearings. You should definately get the shocks. Im not sure the bearings make that much of a difference but considering the stock ones are plastic bushings I was better off with them. Im still waiting to get better turnbuckles because the stock ones bend easily. Im also gonna get the speed motor but only after the stock burns up. I really wanna see what this thing can do but I find it hard to get hop-ups that cost more than the original $89 price tag.

It does not go forward unless you push it to get it going? I am in Iraq (3rd time) but I brought my Mini-T this time.
Last time I brought my TXT-1 and tricked it all out while I was here, this time it's the Mini's turn.
I am looking to get a Mamba system, maybe the 6500 and everything I need to install it and run it.
Would like to get everything at once and save $$ and time on shipping.
What all do I need and where might I find everything with out making several orders from different stores?
I am assuming my Pirahna peak charger will not charge LiPo batts, so what is a good charger that wont break the bank?
Right now, I got Alum a-arms front and rear, Bumpers, skip plates, Alum rims, Alum. motor plate, Orion baja motor, and the Stock ESC, Servo, and Radio.
Any help would be great and feel free to PM me.

You might try www.thetoyz.com for parts and the Mamba Brushless setup.

Does anyone make aftermarket dogbones and rear hub carriers(i.e. RPM)? Really not keen on a whole bag of parts for one hub carrier, then the outdrives and all just for a dogbone... Be nice to upgrade a little in the process. Got one coming Monday with those boo-boos...
Thanks, Eric

I'm starting to get back into RC racing after about a 10 year absence, and I have a few questions. I recently purchased a Losi Mini-T and was thinking that I could use my old electronics with it. I have, from a previous 1/10th scale buggy; a Novak cyclone ESC, Novak Mercury Rx'er, which I'd like to use with my EX-1 Precious radio. I'm assuming that, although these electrics
are dated, that they're somewhat better than the stock electronics and radio that come with the Mini-T. My questions are:
1. Will this combination work in the Mini-T? (I'm guessing it will)
2. Does this upgrade "make sense"? Meaning has technology progressed in the last 10 years such that the stock kit electronics better than the what-was-once pretty high-end electronics of 10 years ago?
3. Do any of you have any general guidelines on what to upgrade to the Mini-T as a whole to get it "race worthy".
I should also note that my racing use will be fairly casual, I have no delusions of gradeur, but am looking to racing at the local track (indoor carpet) with my 8 year hold step-son. Our primary goal is to just have fun, but I wouldn't mind being somewhat competitive. I'll probably eventually move on to brushless and more modern electrics, but that won't be any time soon.
Thanks in advance,
Norm
(I cross-posted this to the RC Electrics forum, I wasn't sure in which forum this question should land, so I placed it in both)

Fellas i need some advice here ... I picked up a very hopped up MINI-t and the servo blew ... I let a guy takeit out for a spin and he brought it back in a shambles ... I need the toughest 3wire servo that you all can think of for under say 40 bucks ... I would like to stay WELL UNDER that price including shipping ... I primarily use the truck soley for bashign and already have a 18th scale race truck so I just need this one to be tough . Also do you need differnt servo savers for it too or are the stockers pretty muc universal .. Thanks for the input ... BIG V

It's funny that this just came up, as I was at a local hobby shop on Friday and asked the exact same question. I was trying to find a body for my son's Mini-T and was told that they were all yanked from the shelf and destroyed. Apparently, VW had a problem with making bodies that looks like a Bug. They must have some sort of copyright on the name or the styling or something, because they sued Losi and won.
It's not just Losi that lost though, the Baja 1/5 vehicles were also in the suit and had to be redesigned and are very hard to find now. The guy at the shop had a body that he said for a Revo conversion, but didn't want to sell it. (Not that I wanted it, I don't have a Revo)
I'm not sure how true any of this is, it's just what they guy from Riders said.

Hi ppl,
I have a mini ti with no stock electronics. I opted not to do anything with chassis or suspension for the reason it didnt make the car go faster. Trinity mini monster fro 17 turn with a 1400 batt novak spy micro esc traxxas receiver
and a hitec hs55 servo. the thing was quick. as it was wearing the brushes out way to fast i decided to get a full bearing set. IT WAS INSANE!! went to a parking lot to see what i could get it to do, then it got away from me. the front bulkhead EXPLODED snapped a cup and busted the rear bulkhead. my 9 month old daughter loves this car and really want to get it up and running again. willing to trade an apogee 2s lipo pack, it doesnt have a charger, but last i ran it it was NUTS. Thank you for any kinda help.

I gave my T to my son a week or so ago and he was running it down the hallway and hit the corner of the door and now has a broken spindle.
It broke where the ball screws through, and I'm trying to find something that might be a bit stronger. Does anyone know if there are aluminum spindles for the T?
The Losi part number that I'm looking to replace is LOSB1027 - Spindle, Carrier & Hub Set.
Thanks,
Scott

Gday,
A friend gave me his stock Mini Baja. I didn't know he even had it and I have never seen this car. Anyway, he ran it stock and I could not stop laughing at the little thing popping wheelies constantly.:D
As soon as I got home, I converted it to brushless 4800kv, 2s 1050mah 40c lipo & 18/60 gearing. Setup for sand or onroad at the moment.
Here's some pics and I will try to get a vid of it at the dunes soon.
Thanks for looking,
Peter

What are the best AA type batteries for the mini t? I want to run 7 of them because my novak ss esc maxes out at 7x1.2v.
Also, how many holes should be in the shock pistons? I'm not sure if I should rebuild with 2 or 3.
Good job

Hi,
What do you mean AA? Do you mean a 7.2v or 8.4v NiMh pack? Not sure?
My shocks are losi options.

Nevermind about that. Discharge on AAs won't be good enough for brushless. I'm 7 years just coming back to the rc scene and now there are lipos.
regarding shock holes--- I think either the front or back should have three holes instead of two. Look on the white head of the piston.

I'm going with flightmaxx 2s 1300s that are 85mm. I might have to squeeze them in by cutting something, but I couldn't pass up the deal. 2 for $35 with a bunch of EC3 and deans plugs. (I needed them in time for christmas, so no hobbyking)

I think for good reason, some would say. I ordered something for $20 and just received an item worth over $120 that's completely different. Should I deal with returning it or just keep it?
hooppjs
12-23-2010, 07:12 PM
Don't know? I'd say 99% of people would keep it. Imagine being honest & telling H/K and they asked you to send it back and you had to pay post, lol.
That's a big slip up. Maybe a digruntled employee.
