holy crap, i already have a half gallon throught this engine and i got it on wed.
anyway this motor is soo powerful, its still runnin rich and will weelie anytime i goose the throttle in 1st gear, that is if the tires dont lite up. im still getting oil marks on the street from the exaust when i punch it
i recomend this motor to anyone who dosnt have it, it is a cheep (130 is CHEEP) drop in motor with INCREDIBLE performance

Everyone at savage-central.com says that the 24.7 regular has WICKED low-end power. And they say the more expensive 24.7 Pro has a little less bottom end, but a lot more power throughout the rev range, including the top end. I hear both are plenty powerful enough to damage the two-speed too. If you are more curious, you can check out savage-central.com They say that the motors make so much power that when upshifting, the power delivery is brutal enough to break the shifter. I'm not sure exactly how it happens, but they say to either go easy on the throttle when it upshifts or just set the shift point a lot lower so it shifts before the engine gets into the meat of the powerband. That's just what I've heard. I'm eager to drop one of these 24.7 engines in my savage, but my 21bb is ripping pretty good and I don't even have two gallons through her. I think it'd be a waste to not use this engine to its fullest, especially since I probably won't get much money for it new or used.

I've got the 24.7 as well, but its in my Maxx. I've had it for probably a month or so and have less than a half gallon since it's been destroying parts. I replaced them and so far (knock on wood) it's held up wonderfully. I like to just tap the throttle and it really jerks hard (wonder why I was shredding stuff, lol) compared to my Sirio. I don't even drive my sirio much anymore cause it's slow compared to the 247.
The pro would be nice since it has less gear ripping bottom end, but I just overcompensated with a gear change and got PLENTY of top end. It's just screams from the first second you tap the throttle and you can't even hear it shift, it just keeps on screaming.
It doesn't wheelie too often cause it usually just does a 4 wheel burnout, even with new grippy tires.

Oh, and I've heard and noticed it seems to like to run better a little rich on the bottom end. Mine usually spits on the pavement as well.

What kind of plug are you guys using? I had tried some hot ones and cold ones and it seems like the cold ones work a lot better on hot restarts. I've had the best luck with McCoy MC-8 which I believe is a cold plug.
Thanks

Do you know what pipe was on that engine because it sounded good.

Yeah that's the big ole fatty pipe that comes with the XTM conversion. It dwarfs my Sirio BB pipe.

I had to really lean mine out this wekend because of heat and major humidity. So I finally got it leaned out enough to keep running and then I had to keep leaning it to get it up to temps. When I did it must of finally got to its sweet spot cause it was doing wheelies like crazy. It would doing fast rolling whenever it wanted to. It caught me offgaurd a few times and it finally scratched the top of the head a tad bit. Not enough to do any damage at all, but enough to not look brand new. It was still awesome though. LOL

i got mine tuned so it lites up the tires when it hits 2nd gear then after like 10 feet it gets traction and pulls the front wheels, half of the blue on my head is ground off and my roll bar isnt that preatty eather

quinton, don't you have your head zip-tied?
Quinton

No. I looked into doing that I there weren't really too many holes to hook thru?
Do you?
Post a pic please.

just the holes for the bolts that hold the head on. sorry, no pics. i just used tiny black zip ties and ran them around the top 2 fins, through the bolt holes. 10 of them. the two on each side are criss-crossed, and the ones at the front and the back are fanned out. i tried to get as much coverage as i could.
get a better air filter too, if you haven't already
