here's the problem... i took my blizzard hydro out for a run today. the esc was getting way too hot and shutting down. it is water cooled. the motor was barely getting hot and the batteries were not even warm. it would run for 15-20 seconds before shutting down. it was hot enough to almost burn me!! (i could even feel the heat coming through the hull) i've got 6 gp 3300 cells, a stock trinity motor and the speed control is from Mtroniks. it's rated up to 8 cells, and can handle 80 amps continuous, and 210 peak. it can also run down to a 12 turn motor. mine motor is stock...so no big deal on that part.

wow thats a stumper chek the ratings on this ecs I had one and i tell ya it took alotof abuse from me. I finaly accidently melted the case of a litle box and the sc stoped working so i sent it into repair center and they said it was beond repar so i bought a new one but then put it in my rusller and traded the rustler for..... Any ways im geting of the subject. Try an esc witha higher amp rating I wuld sugest getiing the esc since its only 23 buks you could always sell it to some one that needs one if you totaly hate it. o and iwas runing a 19 turn motor with 6cels and that esc only became slightly warm.

The rating on these esc's are very misleading.
The esc that's linked shows "Maximum Continuous Current:128 amps" but can only take a 20 turn motor!

i'm going to try re-doing the water cooling, and possibly shortening up the leads to bring down any resistence. but other than that, i still don't understand how i could heat this thing up so fast.

Oh well I still think that the cells and motor puting too much load on the esc.

My kids have a Graupner Phantom that was set up similiarly. Trinity Speed Gem Pro Kobal 13T motor and Mtroniks Tempo (good for 12 turns they say).
The ESC would constantly over-heat and shut down. I replaced the Motor with a Trinity P2K2 27T motor. Hardly noticeable decrease in speed, but now the ESC doesn't overheat. I am not impressed by Mtroniks specs at all.
Save up your $$ and buy the Ziya Plus HV from offshorelectrics.com. I have one in my other boat. Can't say enough about it. Great ESC.

yup...mine's a Tempo!! if the additional cooling doesn't help i'll look into a new speed control. i was hoping to not have to go through this because i want to step it up to an 8 cell brushless setup towards the end of summer. the reason i have this set up is to get used to driving 'rigger's before really trying to pull a lot of speed. grrrrr...it's a great hull but the esc is probably going to drive me nuts. wait, i already am nuts :D

Is Boat Doc nuts? I don't think so

wow!! well...uh...oh yeah, hydro, you left out the obsession with trying to paint all of my boats with guinness paint schemes. i think its the tiny barracks rooms, they start to get to ya after a while. i've got 5 boats in here with me! along with all the support gear!
The problem with car esc's are , the amps cars pull is almost nil. The least a boat esc guy or gal uses should be 60 amps at the least. That explains why car esc's shut down when too many amps are drawn. Another item i saw was the connectors on car esc's are Tam and bullets and like a **** in a wind storm and can't handle MUCH! That's it a nut shell! As of right now , i'm building gearboxes for 05 motors in my 22' boats with 32 pitch and having my motors run in reverse!! I 'm aiming at ratio of 1:6 or 1:7 but am watching the heat closely!

I couldn't make you sound all bad, now could I??????????????Wait a minute. I think I need to think about this too............................................... ..........................
Reference to! Straight facts on esc's. I had a fusion and a tekin. The fusion was a real pain and tekin worked great till a few drops of h2o entered the tekins life span and thats all she wrote!
