Could anyone please tell me what the carb. settings would be from the factory for a older standard carb. magnum XL 40A engine. This thing is flooding the engine and I would like to start all over again to try and solve the problem, any other suggestions would be helpful

Hi,
I use the folowing procedure on most any glow nitro engine. Start with the tank 1/2 full. Check the glow plug by noting if the engine slows noticeably when you remove it at a fast idle. Change to hotter plug if this is the case. The high speed needle should be set for a reasonably strong run with the model nose pointing up abou 45 deg. Get help if needed. After setting the high speed, raise the nose about 30 deg and start leaning the low speed jet. when the mill sounds smooth and maybe ready to die, back up just a bit and level the model. The final check is acceleration from idle. I leave one idling at least 30 sec before rapidly advancing the throttle. A little smoke and sputtering? lean the idle a bit more and repeat. The reverse applies if the mill wants to die at accelleration. Open the idle just a bit and try again.
All of this assumes that the motor is in good condition with solid compression. When they become worn, all bets are off as far as steady settings.

Hey Dave, I just wanted to say THANKS for the help. I`ve been running rc nitro cars for a few months now, and just got my first plane that I purchased used and hope to get it flying real soon, and with the help from nice people like yourself willing to help out a newbe like me, I`m sure it will be in the air before to long.
Thanks again,
Jim
