I was workin on my Maxx and I took off my cooling head because I didnt tighten it right then I still had my easy start battery unit plugged in. Well I wanted to check my compression so I put my finger on top of the piston sleeve and pushed the button and it pushed the sleeve up and I cant get it back in right. I got it back in but the fly wheel is very very tight and the ez start motor can hardly turn the engine over. What should I do???

I know very little about engines but I think sleeves normally have a groove on them to align when pushing it back into place, to make sure it fits correctly

OK. I realized that I put the back plate in wrong could that be a problem?

If there's a flat spot on the back plate, it goes to the top. The piston skirt comes down there and the flat spot is for clearance. I'm not sure if all motors are like that but my os's are.

italiannitroman, sorry man but I have to ask, what were ya thinking? :D your finger on top of the open cylinder wouldn't give you any indication of compression anyway, you have to check that with the head on. Remove the head and double-check for sleeve alignment like Miller says, there should be a notch and a pin on the case, line 'em up.

If that's all good, here is what I would be concerned about: when it jammed to the top of the sleeve and pushed it out, the piston MAY have gotten turned sideways and nicked the sleeve.

Otherwise, did you remove the piston at all? Make sure you don't have it in backwards (big hole in piston AWAY from exhaust port) as this may be another reason for the tightness. When it breaks in, the piston forms perfectly to the sleeve, turning it around may make it feel tight because it's taken the shape of being the other way around (if that makes sense. :D )

Ok I fixed it. I found out that I put my back plate on in the wrong direction and then when I fixed it, it worked great.
