Well...we ran our boat today and ill start with the good news because they lead to the bad ones....it ran fast and you can see a clip at this link...then as you can see in the end of the clip it flipped around  ...i though it was just a sharp turn and my dad is like take it easy but i noe i didnt do it and then he took control of it and all of a sudden he can't turn...good thing the boat was facing our way...well....the hardware got caught in the weeds which is why it flipped at high speeds and then the rudder fell off...but dont worry...we'll fix it up until july 11 Peter ;) ....until we find some decent hardware to buy...the rudder was bent almost halfway :o ..hers a pic

Not bad for a first homebuilt.
What exactly happened? Did it hit something? It's not exactly clear from the video and description. Also, if you want more speed, you might consider a metal prop (sharpened and balanced, of course). Finally, you are right that it needs some strakes and trim tabs, as well as a turn fin.

noone noes what exactly happened but my theory is that since we were close to shore the rudder caught on some weed and spun around it...(thats when it bent) then we did another circle and all of a sudden u hear a plop and the thing got no steering (thats when it fell off)...we were thinking about a metal prop :D

Must have been one strong weed!
I've hit plants before, but my boat just cuts right through it in most cases.
Good luck reparing your boat, and I hope you have better luck at the pond in the future :D

That is an easy fix. How far up from keel is you're strut? Reason , the teflon and cable at that angle and that short of distance and there is no gap between dog drive and strut ( 1/16" ). I sound like i'm bossy or intruder but these are facts. Run your strut or teflon out just above the keel or vee and have strut parallel to keel . Nice job for homemade and as long as it works , who cares. Strakes, Joye on Rumrunnerracing said the closer the strakes are to the keel, the less power is needed. Here's what i did ; i measured up 1" from keel and went 2/3 the distance from transom forward. Next i measured up another 1" and went from transom forward to just over half the length of boat. make sure they are straight strakes!!!!! Use basswood, cause balsa is to soft. Make strakes 1/8 high and 5/16" wide and tapered toward keel. Now you can use boughten balsa pieces but you have to use THIN CA on strakes which makes them very hard and stiff. The trim tabs can be made out of .064 aluminuum sheet; size about 1 3/8" wide and 1 3/16". The width can vary but place tabs down the middle of outside strake and then place turn fin next to trim tabs which will be almost even with outside strake. ! turn fin on each side! WHAT ALL THIS DOES IS MAKE YOUR BOAT RUN MORE FLAT!

Yes you can raise and lower strut easy. Those to black bolts, cut a vertical slit wide enough so you can go up and down. The teflon can go lower by cutting the teflon hole lower. Have the hole 1/8" above the keel. Just put a little 5 min. epozy in hole and will be dry in 1 hour. When you get strut and keel parallel , make bottom bolt like pendulium so you can make strut go swing forward and backward so you can adjust the ride of boat. One item is make sure rudder is 1 1/4" behind prop, that way you can remove flex after you take prop off first.. Your turn fins should protrude into water 1 3/8' and parallel with the boat. if boat has a tendency to turn right or left, it is turn fin causing the problem, likely!

I KEEP LOOKING, JUST SOLDER 2 PIECES OF BRASS ONTO THE UPRIGHT AND DRILL OR DREMEL THE 2 SLOTS. PUT ONE PIECE ON EACH SIDE ABOUT ENOUGH TO COVER BOLT AND PART WAY DOWN THE UPRIGHT . yOU CAN DO IT EASY FROM WHAT I SEE, A PIECE OF CAKE FOR YOU. I LOVE THIS KIND OF STUFF. I'm retired, have fun! What kind of boat?

Forgot, no shame if you can't afford manufactured equipment, just an inconvience and as long as it does the job, be proud of it!!

What i have told you should be right on the money. 2400 cells should be right on too! I have read where 3300's are good for 25 or 30 runs and then they become sport packs!!!
