Is there any way to get the layout specs for the track? I would like to know how much room there really is.

Like others here, I share the concern that the track might not be long enough to get the cars up to speed and still have enough room to decelerate enough to make the turn. I think this is a legitimate subject, worthy of reasonable and thoughtful discussion.

I hope we can can get some real data based on real runs.

I had already been to their website, but I couldn't find the actual specifications of the track, other than it is a half mile oval with banked turns. We already knew that much.

If you found a link on their website that gives track specs, please post the link. I'd really like to know what we're facing.

If its a half mile i would say that one straitaway would probly be about 700 feet, thats a little more than 1/8 mile.

6deg. in the straight, paraballic in the turns 6 on the bottom and 12 on top. Almost 40' wide all around. Very smooth and sticky but with some gouges low in the entrances and exits.

Did anyone see on the site that it said Irwindale Drag strip? its 1/8 mile, but its flat and made for dragging, why dont we get that reserved?

Maybe you can find some nice sattelite shots from the NASA website.
Or probably even better, a russian website - they maped the whole US, didn't they!? :-)

CEN, I brought up the "change of venue thing" already. I encouraged people to write RCCA and state reasons why they think it should be moved to the drag strip.

Actual letters on paper... not email.

Mike, do you remember which thread it was where we kicked that around?

As I have said before, I too would support a change of venue to a long, straight, & flat course, such as a dragstrip. But I have also said, it's up to RCCA where to have it. I don't think for one second they would purposefully select a location just to see us wreck our cars. But I also think that so far, no one has proven that the oval isn't viable. When we have real facts and figures we can petition RCCA to change the venue. Until then, whether we can make the corner or not is speculation. Also, it is possible the dragstrip won't have as much room to get up to speed for some of the cars.

At this point, none of us knows for sure which is better, the oval of the dragstrip. I'm imploring everyone to measure the distances of their test runs and post that information. We won't know anything until we get real data.

Hmmmm.

We are reminded of Rule #6 in post #382 of World's Fastest RC Car Challenge by cianhanrahan:

6. The vehicle must remain operable after its speed runs. Sacrificial motors or power systems that are inoperable after a run are not permitted.

I wonder if a driver almost got his car slowed down in time, but kissed the wall just hard enough to break a right front suspension arm, and can still make the car move, but not steer properly... is that "operable"?

In a Genrel sence i would assume it would be consiterd oprable but probbly disqualified because it would not be capable of a second speed run immediatly if thats what rcca means.
I guess???
I just though of a scary thought.8-(
In rule number 6 it says . Sacrificial motors or power systems that are inoperable after a run are not permitted. So does that mean if I run an eletric car and at the end of my run my batteries are depleted i would be disqualified? I know that would happen to me.
