I was wondering what a good fast motor is for my Turbo Vee 2. Im looking for a motor under $50 and does not use up a 1500 battery to fast. I do have 2 batterys though.

The problem with getting a faster motor is it will use up a battery faster than the stock motor. Another problem you will have is that the ESC on the T.V. 2 is only rated for motors from 27 turns to 20 turns. Theres some one here that uses a 19 turn motor with the stock ESC but you have to be care full. My friend currently runs a 20 turn Traxxas Stinger in his T.V. 2 and its a little faster than the stock motor on the water. If you want to see a huge increase in speed check the other Turbo Vee 2 threads.

Hi RC
The low cost batterys you have now and the speed control in your boat place some limitations on what can be done here. For a modest power and speed improvment you could try a Kyosho Magnetic Mayhem motor from Tower. At $19.99 the price is good . You will go faster and still keep good run times. n.h.schmidt

Well, the problem is:
1. A 1500 mah battery isn't gonna last long with stronger motors. (6 or 7 cell?)
2. A new motor requires a new ESC. You could get a 20+turn motor, but you won't have any drastic speed raises.
3. Check my thread (Search for Turbo Vee) to see my mod to it. You'll soon learn that new motor=New ESC-Cooling for said ESC

Hey alphaslider,
Where did you find that information? I am curiouse because I have a Hammer and it appears to be a similar if not exact ESC as the TV2. Thanks.

Bash, i got the information direct from Tower Hobbies customer service. I am also sure that Hobbico makes most of the parts for the T.V.2 any way and would be the same as whats in the hammer. Hobbico has their hands in a lot of RC stuff in Illinois. Duratrax and Tower Hobbies is based out of the same town as Hobbico here in Illinois I think. But I have gotten off track. I hope I helped you out Bash.

Well, if you cannot afford a new ESC, then i would suggest using the Reedy 19 turn Spec quad magnet motor. It retails for $35 and with the Quad magnet can, it sould produce more torque than a regular 19 turn. Hell that Reedy should perform like a regular 17 turn motor without quad magnets. But heat will be a concern so test it carefully.

OK your limits are the esc which means no high current motors

I would do a couple of things

first get more voltage
second get a better prop
third get a better motor

Extra voltage is the easiest way to get your motor to make more power. 1 extra cell will give you 20% more power and good cells will give you 25% more rpm.

if your esc handles 7 cells. If your charger can do 7 cells but Nicad only 7 CP1300's ($21 for 7).

If you have a charger which charges Nickel Metal Hydride (NiMH) cells get 7 gp1100's ($12.30 for 7) and assemble them into packs yourself.

The reason for these cells is they are light! the seven 1300's weigh about 3/4s of your current cells the seven GP1100's less than half (45%). This allows your boat to run much lighter so making a lighter load for the motor. The GP's are high voltage and have as much capacity as the 1300's. If youget them they are tiny - but dont freak they are just excellent cells

Runtimes should be close to 5 minutes withthe standard motor. The extra voltage also makes the motor more efficient

try http://www.battlepack.com/loosecells.asp.

The prop that will be easiest for you is an Octura 431 plastic available here http://www.finedesignrc.com/octuraprops.asp for $1.25 each. Get three, one for the boat; one spare; and one to cut down for higher performance.

The motor a traxxas stinger is $17.49 from Tower Hobbies or a Magentic Mayhem for $19 will both be a bit better both need 7 cells to make a big difference.

Best motor IMO will be a Trinity P2k2 Pro Stock motor will give you a significantly better performing motor for $29 and it can be easily serviced.
see it at http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/WTI0095P?FVSEARCH=p2k2&FVPROFIL=++ - it would be a good idea to cool the brushes - if you get this motor 6 cells should be enough.

good luck and if you need any help email me at andrew@fastelectrics.com and i will show you the prop mods

hey rc...get a jaguar 19 turn motor (16 american buks on tower hobbies) and a pro boat esc (15 turn limit) for 70 canadian dollars..i run this setup and its great...oh yeah and 8 cells...nut make sure u install water cooling on the brush hoods otherwise ur leads will come off :D

want some pics of my boat?

alphaslider,
Thats good to know. Maybe I will try a couple of motors and see what they will do. I like the boat how it is, its just hard to leave things well enough alone. I get the hop-up bug with all my RC stuff and usually keep pushing. I would like to try a new prop, but most that I've found that will fit are smaller diameter and have less pitch. I think they would be slower than the stock one so I havent tried one yet. Maybe if I get a higher RPM motor then a smaller dia x pitch prop would be good for a higher top speed. If I really want to upgrade the drive train I think I will get a new ESC that will handle 10 cells, like an RC-Hydro or ProBoat or maybe an Mtronics, and a nice boat type motor like a Graupner 600bb or something.

Porschefan911,
Yes please post some pics. Maybe of the inside too. Thanks.

The prop very important - more power will mostly be wasted on the stock prop. There are a couple of european sites where you can order props for 4mm shaft ewither brass ones from Astec - they are worth the money or carbon fibre graupner props which are very good

A sort of setup yu could look at is the eco boat setup run in the USA or Europe - this is the best for boats like yours.

with your boat running 7 cells you can expect much better performance - the cheap cells are just that - they are the combustion chamber. Better cells like zapped GP1100's will make your boat a lot faster

i got the pics and a movie but i dont noe where to host that so give me some time..this is the motor

http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXBHF3&P=7

this is a pic of my boat...its scratch built completely except the electronics...
the brush cooling is really easy to make but EXTREMELY important in this setup for me.

sry about the bad quality...radiocontrolzone is funny..the file size limit is 78.1kb and my pic was 78.2kb and they didnt allow me to post it so i had to resize it like 100 times...more pics coming

Porsche fan nice boat looks to be running well - hoever it is a siurface drive a very dffernet setup to Kamakazes submerged drive. BTW have you tiured an 15 or 14 turn in it?

The Tubo V is a similar size to cracker box a race class which uses 6 cells and a 27/1 motor to a submerged prop. The setups are well known and quick and require only the motor and prop - the cells are optional but would boost performance significantly.

oh...never knew that....i didnt try a 15 turn motor in it cause im thinking of putting a brushless motor in it very very soon
