alright...i'm pissed!!! i bought the wrong motor...i guess it just doesn't have enough ass in the pants to push my little rigger. what i need is good 6 cell motor, above 12 turns. it's for a 24" 'rigger. any suggestions? i can't afford to swap up to brushless right now. so i just need a good 6 cell brushed motor. my esc can handle down to a 12 turn, and my LHS can get just about any motor.

Try a 19t Chameleon, good for between 30-35k rpm & alot of torque.

I would go for a 13-14 turn P-94. Also, what motor/prop are you using right now. There are a lot of reasons it might not have enough power, and not all of them are the motor.

i was looking at Big Jim's motors and Team Paradigm, i e-mailed 'em to see if they had something that would fit. if they do...then that's what i'm going with. the current 4-cell hydro record is held by one of their motors, so i think i'm going to start working on building a 4-cell boat too, this will be a scratch project, though. they've got some pretty nice stuff and the prices are awesome.

i'm picking up a trinity 15turn double. the price is right and it should get the job done. however, after some more looking, i think my esc was part of the problem. any recomendations for a decent esc? it needs to handle down to 14 turns...lets just say i did a little customizing to another moter :D i don't want anything too pricey, just something that will actually work!

RC-Hydroscontroller for the brushed motors - however -if u are getting one then get a large comm Reedy motor 9/3 or 10/3 and run a small X430 prop and u will have a screamer

i got the new motor. like i said above, it's a trinity 15 turn double. i went through the proper break in procedure and all that jazz. while installing it, i noticed that my drive angle was a little off, so i changed the mount holes a little bit to allow a straighter drive line. i noticed during set up that the esc doesn't get as hot with this motor than it did with the 27 turn...any idea why?? if this doesn't do it, then i will know that it's the esc and i'll pick one up from rc-hydros. thanks for the help guys.

Hey Doc, you could have done what they are doing in a local 1/10th scale hydro club here in Washington. This club set the rules for drive systems to be one Astroflight 25 5 turn motor, with a 12 sub C battery limit for round nose and 14 for pickleforks. Believe it or not, these things haul serious "tail" while racing :) Now don't you wish you were out here in Seattle about now? We have the Seafair Festival going on, Unlimited and Unlimited Light hydroplane racing next weekend, and the Oh Boy! Oberto unlimited hydro sitting in a KOA campground south of Seattle. You want some serious fun? Try getting measurements off the boat and answer questions about it at the same time. Now that's fun :D It seemed I was the only one to know ANYTHING about the boat. The only thing that would be better is to win the Lotto too :D

hi the reason for the heat is the stocker may be pulling higher amps at idle - ie free running. My moster stock pulls 8.5 amps which is like a 12 turn handwound modified. The reason for this is it ups output in the highly competitive stock motor classes. But your controller will end up hotter running the lower power motor
Once under load the results will be very different and the 15 has teh potemntial to pull more amps - you stand to blow a good esc. As an interim measure use a tamiya mechanical controller (take the black wire off the controller and make it a direct line from cells to motor) This reduces shorting and resistance and removes reverse - but the controller will run cool and live for you for a long time or get yourself an RC hydros. It is a worthwhile addition
Also what cells, prop, hull are yu running R u using flex or solid shaft - And what runtime I have a feeling your problems arose in other areas of your setup not the esc
