I recently got a XXX-4 with a Novak SS5800 Motor. They say that they are maintaince free but nothing these days if ever maintaince free. Is there any tips on what to do with them after runs etc.

Cheers

None of this needs to be done more then once every few weeks, unless you run in very sandy or dusty conditions. Most of the warranty stuff we see is pretty clean, but there are many that look like they've been burried a few times.

The motor may look "sealed" but it's not completely sealed. You can take the endbell off from time to time and get the dirt out. If you run in sandy, or very fine dirt it is a bigger problem. Don't use spray cleaners, just brush off or blow it out lightly. There are 3 cap head screws that hold on the front endbell. You can then slide the Rotor out and clean it. Make sure to keep track of the spacers on the motor shaft, and the paper insulator in the endbell. The longer brass spacer goes on the shorter side of the shaft.

Bearing maintenance can be done at this time as well, clean them out and re-oil. The "rear" bearing on the sensor, or wire side, of the motor can be accessed by removing he 3 smaller flat head screws. The bearing will be just under the small black cap.

Please feel free to email us anytime with questions like this, we're glad to help.

Thanks
Charlie

Yes, but that is only when you know this:

CharlieS Biography:

"I am founder and President of Novak Electronics, Inc. I have Bachilor of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering fron Iowa State University. I have been a modeler for about sixty years."

BL is drowing a lot of attention and it is clearly important to me to know that we have this type of person posting on this forum !

Thanks for your post Charlie

When Mr. Charlie can spell "bachilor's" right I'll believe he's the president of Novak.

I have one of them "Bachilor's" too.

What are you talking about?? I'm just a Customer Service Guy. Nothing special going on here. I don't have any degrees, unless you guys were making fun of something I'm missing..... Also, i've been into R/C cars for about 16 years.

i'm thinking about getting that same system for my tc3, how fast in mph would you say you car gets with it?
p.s. what gearing do you have?

I have one in my T3 and it's a pretty decent system. Geared right you can average around 35 mph (this is in my T3 geared at 20/81). A member of these boards (forget who :o ) geared his T3 at 25/81 and hit 45 mph. In your TC3 I would imagine speeds of 40-45 mph or more geared however the TC3 is geared at with a 12 turn mod motor (maybe a little higher due to the extra torque). Hope that helps!

Probably 35 may be 40. I would say my xxx-s with a final ratio of 6.86 gets up into the high 30s. For playing, this ratio is a little steep. I would start with a 7.1 or little higher ratio :)

Can you post pics on how you got the system in there? I had to cut the larger motor/esc wires down really short so the body would fit right. That leaves the group of smaller wires that are wrapped in the loom that I need to tuck away somewhere.

i'am not sure what system to get the super sport or the 58000?
also do they run hotter than say a 19t mod would run? because i would be sick if i got it and overheated it because i dident know what temp range it ran in

The super sport is the 5800 motor/esc combo. The super stock is the 4300 motor/esc combo. The Super Sport will run much faster than a 19 turn motor if it's geared properly. The 4300 will probably be slower since it's comparable to a stock motor, but will most likely have much more torque. The novak's ESC is supposed to run hotter than the motor, but the motor can get very hot if it's either a warm day (like upper 80's like we have in florida constantly) or if it's overgeared.
