View Full Version : Average age of R/C drivers

I did a search for "average age" and hadn't found anything so I thought I'd post. Has RCCA don a poll on this? If not, what is the average age of the typical R/C driver?

OK, but everyone is on their way in that direction. I'm gonna be 32 in October myself - almost half way to retirement. Anybody else have an idea or guess? How about in your area?

I am 12. I am not the youngest though. There is this kid there who has a JR XR2 and the radio is 2 times the size of his head!!! He is a good driver too. At my track It think it ranges from 8(maybe younger) to 45,50 give or take a few.

DirtRacinFool
08-03-2001, 01:38 PM
Ok heres the age range of the people I race with, they range in age from 15 to 52. The group I race with are all Off Roaders, us "older" guys seem to spend more time helping out the "newbies" then racing. But hey, thats what this Hobby is all about. We figure the more we help, the more people we can get interested in this great hobby.

Today is my 27th birthday, my grandpa bought me my first r/c car when I was around four years old, and I've rarely had interest in much else since.
All of my close racing buddies are between 24 and 45. We don't have that many kids at our track on a consistant basis.

I guess I'm the 'average' RC'er when it comes to age. (26)

I think this thread would have been better presented in a 'Survey' form like on the homepage of RCCA. (Without the spelling errors of course)

I'm 22, and have been messing with "real" R/Cs since I was 6. I'd say most of the crowd out at the track are in their early to mid 30's, with a few younger ones mixed in for good measure-- diversity is good. A few of the older guys race with their younger kids, which is great.

Haunted Myst, have some respect for your elders, sonny!

I haven't been into RC for that long, but I've been playing with model cars and trying to send things into space since I was about 12, back in the days when a litre of petrol was 19 cents, and safe to play with. But then again, I also remember when S e x was safe and racing was dangerous !

BlackWolf, I appologize if the location of my post or my spelling offended you. I do not work for RCCA nor am I a moderator so I have no control over the main RCCA site. Maybe I should have just wrote an email to them. Again, my appolgies if I offended you in any way.

I'm 35. The few times I've been to our local outdoor track I've seen mostly people in their 30's and young teens (I think we all know what the older teens are interested in). :D

rjb, I didn't get that blackwolf was offended. I think this would be a great survey question on the main site as well. The results would be more accurate because I'm sure more people go to the main site without coming to the forums.

I'm 27.

I first got into RC when I was about 15. I mostly just toyed around my neighborhood with my Tamiya Hornet. Just before I went off to college, I bought an Associated Team car and actually ran some races. I haven't had time for RC these past years.

I got married, had a few kids, and my life is starting to slow down and I have some free time on my hands...so I'm getting back into RC.

I got my little brother into the hobby by accident and he turned 9 when he got his first nitro truck. i might get one of his friends into the hobby and he is around 10-12 years old.

I'm getting them while they are young :D :D.

Well, my first "RC" car was a Tyco Hammer (yes, I know it's a toy). My first real RC car was a Tamiya Frog that my dad had collecting dust in the garage. I rebuilt it with many new parts and it runs pretty well now. I use a Futaba Magnum Junior that's about as old as the car (I think going on twelve years now) but is still a lot better than the radio that came with my RTR TC3 I just bought last week. Oh yeah, getting back to the topic, I'm 17.:D

It seems like a lot of us left the hobby in the mid 90's. I left because all of the tracks closed in my area around 94 and that's all I really do is race. We had a bunch of off road tracks here in the San Diego area but they all shut their doors. Now there's only two places in this big city that run parking lot races anymore.
