Just wanna fill everyone in on the new BPP race truck. The first trucks are getting their full race prep, and should be on hand at the RCCA race in CT coming up quickly. This truck has been a 1year + project, finally becoming the ultimate race truck. Similar to a streched E-maxx in size, only pounds lighter, and already fully fortified in all the right areas. Brushless ready drivetrain, ultra strong chassis, you name it its got it.
If you havent been following the progress at Maxxtraxx, heres a teaser photo......

From what I can see, it looks like you're using a rocker setup like the revo.. and it'll have 2 decks.
also looks like 2 batt packs mounted along the sides.. but then the motor would have to be above the center diff/spur whichever your using.., and I don't see a front center driveshaft..
-Nick

08-05-2004, 03:02 AM
also it seems to have some type of roll bar underneath the chassis (always a plus)
DualBL
08-05-2004, 05:07 AM
OH!
heh
when i first saw the rollbar, i only saw it in the wheel wells, so they looked like rockers.. now I see it through the body..

no dual deck, no rockers. There is no driveshaft in the picture, was working on it and decided to snap a picture to show some progress. It is 4wd and does have a front driveshaft.

I see a center "spine" that ties the front and rear bulkheads together and acts as a roll bar (and could be tied to the lower chassis to make the whole truck super stiff).
If that is the case, nice job... :)
Is the lower chassis made out of Carbon Fiber? :D It also looks like the battery locations are machined out to hold the batteries in and even lower the center of gravity.
Of course I am just guessing.
Now time to bribe BPP so he will take a shot with the body off. ;)
Cold Fusion
08-05-2004, 03:15 PM
Maybe similar to the razorback with that spine?
racinlosi
08-05-2004, 03:55 PM
WOW, if that is carbon fiber, that is one thick/expencive ass piece right there!
bomb-proof
08-05-2004, 04:16 PM
Nah, its not carbon fiber....you are right that would be very expensive.
The brace isnt like the razorback, well, It has entirely different purposes along with the obvious. Once you see it with the body off, it will be a lil more obvious. By no means was it a rip off of the razorback, or a copy, this was in the works before any of us even saw a razorback.
Cold Fusion
08-05-2004, 06:17 PM
That is way too thick to be Carbon Fiber. I'm thinking either black polycarb or graphite.
Yeah, a lot of things happen like that. I played around with a center spine about 6 months ago but that was for a 2wd.
bomb-proof
08-05-2004, 09:22 PM
Its not black polycarb either, and carbon fiber is graphite, graphite is basically pure carbon. Either way, high dolla.

ya, no doubt. I was a lil disappointed at the last RCCA race with my mild 9 cells per motor set up, this time I wanna step it up a notch.
Hi-voltage, untested ESC, less than a week before a 1000K drive to race...........this sounds just lovely.

How thick can carbon fiber be made anyways?

Carbon fiber can be made 20 feet thick if you want to pay for it, and thicker.
RCCA race is Aug 14th/15th.

Now we can't give away all the secrets before the race. The motor and controller will be from Starluck RC and the batteries will be from hypercells.
That's about all we can divulge at this point in time. Pictures and video will be shot tomorrow.

Well, I got to run this latest version of the truck on Sunday. Went good and bad, the truck was absolutely perfect, handling was the best yet...better than anything else I have driven. The bad is of course the ESC......just brought the smoked ESC count a lil higher, I think this is the 10th esc that I have smoked over the years. Everything was correct, and well within the controllers limits. Now I have no esc....and a race 1000 miles away, and have to leave thurs morning if I go..

Speed is going to be highly dependent on motor choice and cell count.
The main point is that you can use the speed unlike the E-Maxx which gets unstable quickly or breaks. There's plenty of room for high voltage setups for any reasonable speed setup you want. This is going to be a big horsepower setup. C50 Maxx owners need not apply....LOL!!!!!!

What ESC were you using? My Hacker Comp is start to act funny. I am using 16 cells so it's to be expected. I was going to buy the 18.97 but so many people seem to be having issues with them. I might have to shell out the big bucks and get the 40.160 .

Well thanks for telling me what esc it wasnt, being very secretive about you BL setup and cell count, haha. Man I have had two BL controllers go up on me also by no fault of my own and it sucks, when will we have a controller out that can be reliable and handle the amount of cells we like to through at it. If you dont make it out to the CT race that will suck but please get us some pics of your truck anyway.

I guess I can post a few specs on the truck since pictures will follow soon. The current design is based around a single motor, and capable of high cell counts (18-20 cells flat). Its using a 4 shock set up( I absolutely hate dealing with 8 shocks on a race truck). The only thing off an E-maxx thats gunna fit is basically the wheels. Massive motor mount to disipate heat, super stiff chassis, locked center(like E-maxx) for use with electronic motor braking OR center diff with front/rear brakes with adjustable bias, super tough servo saver, the list goes on and on......
Now comes the fun part, now I gotta try and mass produce these things, while someone else tries to copy it. No way around that, just remember where ya saw it first.....support the originators, and you will see evolution, support the cloners, and see the same ole junk with no progression.

Woah! That is not like anything I've seen! How much are these going to be? Now I have to decide between the cold fusion truggy, this, and a twin force for my next BL rig. Any idea what size motor this will need and how many cells? It gets pricier when I need a controller that can take more amps. Too cool!
Chunk
08-20-2004, 10:10 PM
I'm in the same boat need to decide on what to buy as far as an Electric MT. Here's my thoughts not bashing just my observations from reading both threads,
CF not much progression in months, don't know what to call it Buggy, Truck, Truggy, home made wood router CNC and very secretive about his age , makes me weary thinking he is very young and just trying to get going.
BPP has a completed MT & putting out test vehicles in the same or less time, quality parts (you can tell his are done on a real CNC machine), make me think he is more established which = reliability
Right now I am leaning alot more towards BPP Electric MT.

Crashmaxx- We are still testing motor set ups, and probably will for a while longer so we can give a good set up to run. As for cells, I like 14-20 myself. This truck should be pretty easy on controllers(with any luck). The twin force is a good truck from what I have seen, lil short for my taste and I kinda like independent suspension for a hi-perf truck.
Chunk- Are you Captain Chunk? If so, how did you escape from the Fratellies?
I have noticed C/F has lost a lil steam on the project(well as far as I can see), but lets hope he is just holding back. Looks like everything is still on go on thier "truggy" , I cant wait to see it. Maybe between the two of us we can start something. In all fairness, I had a lil headstart, I have been workin on this thing for months.
Chunk
08-20-2004, 11:43 PM
I'm still holding out to see what C/F has up his sleeve, then I'll be like  or
That's Mr. Captain Chunk! Here's a recap
Francis Fratelli: Tell us everything! Everything!
Chunk: Everything. OK! I'll talk! In third grade, I cheated on my history exam. In fourth grade, I stole my uncle Max's toupee and I glued it on my face when I was Moses in my Hebrew School play. In fifth grade, I knocked my sister Edie down the stairs and I blamed it on the dog...When my mom sent me to the summer camp for fat kids and then they served lunch, I got nuts and I pigged out and they kicked me out...But the worst thing I ever done… I mixed a pot of fake puke at home and then I went to this movie theater, hid the puke in my jacket, climbed up to the balcony and then, th-th-then, I made a noise like this: huaaaa-huaaaa-huuuaaaaaaaaa -- and then I dumped it over the side, all over the people in the audience. And then, this was horrible; all the people started getting sick and throwing up all over each other. I never felt so bad in my entire life.
I still get goosebumps when Chunk deems himself Captain Chunk yells "and Captain Chunk says, Let's get the hell outta here!". Truly the movie highlight of my childhood and inspiration for fat kids everywhere.

Brian, the truck looks great! I've always been a fan of your work and this one looks like a winner.
Chunk, I think it's finally time to tell the public a little about myself since you're starting to wonder. I'm 15 years old and an amateur Mechanical Engineer. I've been working in CAD for 3 years and programming for 4 1/2 years. For the last 5 years I've been involved in RC cars. First it was a TRX1, then a Rustler, Stampede, Emaxx, and the Duratrax Axis. All of these had certain items I liked but were also flawed for use with Brushless motors (the only thing I run). One day I finally decided to build what I knew could handle the power and here I am. The Truggy is making progress although I've been too busy to post all of it.
As far the the Manufacturing side, it's not too bad. I've got thousands invested in a full 3D Cad/Cam package. My Router is based on an Aluminum Frame riding on THK 20mm rails and precision ground ball screws. Like I said earlier, I'm achieving plus or minus .001 on a daily basis. That's much better then a lot of the molded production parts from big names like Traxxas...
A couple of my customer's know my age but I've never posted it on a public forum. The reaction should be interesting to say the least.

how do you mount this batts in your truck ?
wouldn´t it be better to re-solder them..
two 5s1p on each side of the truck..
the cells like this:
[cell1][cell2][cell3]--- +
[cell4][cell5]------ -
and this block standing (vertically), so you can mount it very close to the center..
3cells lying ont he ground, two on top
and the same on the other side..
or do you want to use the balancer (seems so) ?!?
its not realy nesseccary..
balance them by hand every few month is enough of taking care for them..
use them some weeks now in a heli.. over 1000Watt peak out of only 5cells *lol*
