View Full Version : Just got a Nemisis, now I need help.
I just got a Nemisis 540 8s to replace a lehner 4200 on my rustler. I hope I'm going to be happy with this motor it seems bigger and heavier. Since its bigger is it more powerfull. I'm really considering sending it back and getting another lehner 4200. I'm passing my old 4200 down to my son. Its still a great motor.
The motor wires are 1 3/4 inches long I need about 5 1/2 inches total. Do I just solder more wire to the wires or what? Also how do you replace the bearings on these motors?

It's alot more powerful, what esc do you have?

Adding extra wire length is pretty easy, just use a heavy guage wire and be sure to make solid soldered connections properly insulated with heatshrink tubing. A light twisting of all three wires together will help minimize radiated noise which could cause radio interference and looks great too.
When soldering the extra wire don't just stick the wire beside the motor leads and solder it - that would be a connection with more resistance then you want. Take the bare wire and fan it out a little so it sits all around the motor lead, keep it as tight to the motor lead as possible, then solder it. The idea is to keep the added wire and motor leads as close to each other as is possible so the loss in the solder is minimized.
I just got a U Force 75. I've only run it a couple of times with the 4200. I love how smooth it is. I had a schultz 18.61 that I'm also passing down to my son.
I'm glad the Nemisis motor is more powerful I will have to keep it then. That makes up for the fact that it is bigger and slightly more heavy.
TheSteve, Thanks for the detail on how to solder this up. I was going to solder the wires side by side. I'm glad you explained the best way to solder this together. I will do it like you say.
I'm running this in a Rustler that is set up similar to the ultimate rustler (without the heavy dremel work). Its pretty modified and can handle the power well. I'm mostly running 7 cell flat packs and occasionally 8 cell packs. All just for fun!
How about the bearings? Does anybody know what size they are or how to change them?

Muck:
Can you feel a difference in the handling between the 18.61 and the U-Force 75 ? is the new U75 more smooth ?

Must be one of those blue cans?
The 540-8S has a good bit more power than the Basic 4200. Speed will be close geared the same on the same cells, but it can pull higher gearing with the extra torque. Runs pretty cool too. It used to flip my XXX-T on its back accelerating on 6 cells. My 4200 never did that even on 9 cells.
Bearings are 5x11x5 if my memory serves me correctly. The endbells are pressed on.
Good job on the soldering answer TheSteve. Couldn't have said it better myself.
e_lm_70:
The u force is noticeable over the 18.61. With the 18.61 the power comes on real fast. The u force just feels more smooth. I think it wil come down to better traction.
starluckrc:
Yes, its the blue can. I'll buy from you next time!
Since the end bells are pressed on does that mean that the bearings are not really replacable?

They can be replaced. Shouldn't be anything to worry about for many years though.
Btw, Thanks starluck for the responses. I can tell you are a good man. I ask about the bearings becaused I have had to replace the bearings in the 4200 a couple of times in a year. I've also had open it up just to clean it out on many occasions. Dust and fine metalic debri gets in no matter how well I seal it up. Once stuff gets in, it gets a gritty feel when you spin the motor by hand. After I clean out the inside it's fine and reaady to go again.
I'm wondering if I will have to do the same with the Nemisis? Sounds like the bearings are better quality though.

If you carefully seal around where the wires exit the can, you should have no problems with debris getting in.
