View Full Version : Aerodynamic Body

I have seen some pictures on the forum of cars that will be competing at Irwindale and to me, the shape of those bodies can be better. I do not say I am an expert at aerodynamics, but there is one thing that makes me wonder why a body looks as it looks.

What I mean is that the body not have to have a driver inside. Real cars are made to take one or more humans, so these cars need to have space for them.
Thus the body has to of a special type.
Even the Bonneville cars has to carry one person and that is why they have that bump for the driver.

Now, our cars do not have to be designed to carry a scale version of a person.

If you take a look at my car, you will see that it would not fit a person if it was built 1:1 scale. I have my servo and that is my driver :)

Just my 2 cents to try to help people go faster.

Here's my car:

Rule #5 of RC Car Action "Speed Challenge":

5. Vehicles are not required to look like any type of "real" car or truck, but all entries must have some type of 3-dimensional “cockpit area” with windows (clear or painted). It’s OK if your car looks like a space ship as long as it appears to have a place for a guy to sit.

OK, so just make a window somewhere on the body. For ex, I can have a window where the rear wheel fit. Or even two windows. No need to
change the design of the body. Just to add some paint for a window or a sticker that looks like a window.

You'll have to ask Steve on this one, but for me, 3 dimensionnal cokpit area means any king of "bulge" on the body where a scaled guy can fit with windows on it.

So, you might want to ask him for more information on this specific rule..

Sig, do you have anything more definitive than pencil sketches of the body on your site?

BTW... the word "Extremfart" in the title of that article... uh... could you tell us what it means?

NIC,

I will drive the car in August for training and setup, and maybe go to Mantorp race park on the 29-30/8, and I will for sure race the car on the Tullinge drag car races in September.

If those races go well, I plan to go to California in June.

Sigurd, you could always turn the front end of the "body" into a cockpit, just put a vertical window on the very front, with matching side windows. Worse case scenario, you could always use lexan to form this cockpit. If the judges question it, you could always use a GI Joe action figure to demonstrate a driver lying in the supine position as a driver. In order to maintain the shape's integrity, I don't know what else you can do. I'm afraid if you put a bubble on the front as a cockpit, it'd look too much like some odd flying phallus.

Stop it guys, this is just too funny!

Bad idea to read these post at work, got some strange looks here, laughing out loud and tears rolling down my face...

Do you have to stroke it before each run to get the chassis stiff enough?

Out now:
Some odd flying phallus

This is too much, but somehow, I can't help myself <wiping tears out of eyes>

I wonder if he could get sponsored by Ron Jeremy.

New band name: Stiff Enough

I think we were fine until HM's comment, then everything rapidly deteriorated. Thanks HM, this has been one of the best threads in a while!! :D :D :D :D
