while painting my room i got thiis idea of making a boat out of aluminum and aluminum sheets...whadda ya think...can it be done...i already got the design of the boat...i want it to be something simple at first like the mutineer kit so i wouldnt have to bend too much aluminum on th ecurves....i just wanna see if it will work..has it ever been done or has naybody tried to do it?

Anything watertight will float and anything hydrdynamic with go along so as long as it's the right shape and water tight with decent push you should be laughing....

Interesting choice of material, let us know how you get on.....

Welding aluminium is a Pain!!!
But it sounds like a good idea...maybie some rivets and sikaflex will do the job..

I am actually building a Newton 1/8 scale hydro and I am using aluminium for most of the stringers. There will still be wood though for the boat is an old round nosed hydro. I am having to blend the use of the two. I had access to a lot of alluminium sheets and was curious as to how much (IF ANY) weight I could shave off verses just using all wood.

wouldn't an Al hull be a magnet for interference? you'd have to find a way to isolate your radio gear, that's for sure.
