Monster Jam is Coming!

I have been trying to secure a location for the 1st Monster Jam of 2004 and have finally succeeded! This one will be out of control!!!

When: Sunday, August 29th 2004

Where: Paulus Park in Lake Zurich, IL just north of where Rt.12 crosses Rt. 22

Events: Hill Climb (new!), Sled Pull, Big Jump (set in the middle of a huge sledding hill so you can land your truck on a soft grass decline), obstacle course which uses part of the skate park, and tons of prizes to give away from DuBro, Pro-Line, and Team Associated!

Cost: $10 for club members, $15 for non members, $20 to participate & join the club at the door

I just noticed that I did not post the time:

Monster Jam sign-in starts at 9am. The obstacle course event starts at 10:30am. You can sign-in anytime after 9am, if you arrive after an event has already started you just miss that event and still get to participate in all remaining events plus the prize raffle.

Cost is $10 for club members, $15 for non-members, everyone that enters get a prize. Enter as many additional trucks as you want for an extra $5!!!

With the success of Walt's on-road racing program on Sundays, it does not make sense for him to not race in order for us to use his facility for a Monster Jam. Maybe on the Sunday following his last day of on-road racing we will try. But the location we are at on the 29th is perfect for all events!

Drive to Lake Zurich, it's just under an hour from Tinley.

monster Jam has come and gone. hehe.. I took the long jump (just a little over 50ft) and the hill climb with a time that I think was a full second faster than anyone else. :) good times. Next time I won't show up hung over and late and miss the first event. lol. I look forward to seeing pics or a vid or two form the event. hopfully you will have another one this year. :D

John jumped his T-Maxx longer than my 1/8th scale buggy, nice! His truck is really dialed in. All in all it was a good event. Lots of prizes given out too. The next one, Monster Jam II, will be in 3-4 weeks, expect to see an even bigger obstacle course, the big jump, and this time the hill climb with some added twists including side-by-side racing instead of timed single runs. The sled pull will go away and the radar runs will be added back in the mix.

Do you have a exact date yet? In my opinion it should be the last week of October. Don't do it the 16 or 17 thats hobby expo in chicago. Give sometime for people to upgrade after the expo. This event would possably be the last monster jam of the season right? Might as well stretch the time out a little.

As of yesterday, the date was chosen for Monster Jam II. First, it is going to be in Tinley Park this time at the bowling alley. The obstacle course will be huge, taking up most of the parking lot. There is no hill there like we had in Lake Zurich so the hill climb will not be an event. We will do radar runs and the big jump of course. We will also have access to the off road track so we will have an event using the track. It will most likely be short format racing, elimination style like the obstacle couse races.

Date: Sunday, October 3rd, 2004
Time: 10am Sign-In, 1st event starts at 10:30am, last event ends by 4pm
Location: Tinley Park Bowl / 7601 West 183rd Street / Tinley Park, Illinois 60477
Trucks: Monster Trucks, 1/8th scale buggies, any 1/10th or larger off-road truck can participate
Prizes: Lots of prizes will be given out!

regarding the jams for next year....

how many do you plan to do/when?

I would like to hold 4 Monster Jams like we did in 2003. This year was tough due to other obligations that kept me from doing anything RC related! In 2005 we will shoot for 4 Jams. Once a month starting in May or June is the best I can tell you this far out.

May or June is Spring. Any earlier than that and the chance for rain is still pretty high.

We raffled off a Mini-T, gave away a new Hitec Agressor SRX Radio, Painted HPI Savage Body, plus a bunch of other cool prizes. Everyone that participated received a Dubro Kwik Stop or Body Klip package, and decals from Hitec, HPI, RC Solutions, RC Car Action, and Big Squid RC.

Plans to hold a 1/18th scale Mini Jam indoors over the winter are already in motion.

Don't forget to attend the Chicago Hobby Show October 16th & 17th at the Donald E. Stevens Convention Center in Rosemont. $2 off coupons are at your local hobby shop. This is the largest show in the country and it is right in our backyard!
