I'm getting my S-maxx in about 2-3 weeks. I think it's a good choice for newbie's like myself. And it is track right out of the box plus if you want reverse or 4wd down the road you can simply buy and install each module.

just got mine....i love it wheelies on command and jumps very nicely. the night i went to race it though i switched the kind of gas i used and it screwed everything up. So i spent all night tuning the engine and not the suspension. First mod is proley gonna be the proline suspension.

I just got my S-maxx today. But the weather was to bad to start the break-in process. Hopefully I can start it tomorrow.

My brother got his on tuesday. It was used, so we just added fuel and she started right up. After a little tuning here and there we found the sweet spot. Now, it starts up on the first pull every time. Top speed was probably around 30-35mph (just guessing). The truck already had rpm a-arms all around, airtronics radio, 4 shock setup, rpm bulkhead braces and a pull start. It is very quick in the street, but off road you can tell the 2wd is slower than 4wd. The only problem was it didnt come with a body. Well, thats actually good because we can paint it whatever we want. Since its only 2wd, the braking is kinda weak too. So far hes rolled it twice, side swiped the curb, and ran straight into this little brick broder that was kind of hidden. And after that, no broken parts. Only thing that happened was the exhaust pipe came off the coupler.

I got my S-Maxx last week the break-in went smooth. One thing I found out is that one of the first aftermarket parts people need for the S-Maxx is a Wheelie bar.
I'm currently use Blue thunder race formula 20% in my S-Maxx. Would I be safe if I switched brands of fuel to the Sidewinder Backyard Basher 20%.
Would I have to re-break in my engine with the different fuel ?
P.S. The aftermarket parts I'm eventually going to get for my S-Maxx are....
The Trinity Wheelie Bar
Slimline Dual Rear Exhaust
And others as I think of them.
streetracer
09-19-2004, 04:02 AM
Rookie, You dont have to break in the engine again, but believe it or not, i have found that the best performing fuel for this engine is the Traxxas Top Fuel. It really makes a difference and will determine the speed you get out of it.
And by the way, dont go with the dual rear exhaust. It will rob you of power.
NitroRookie
09-20-2004, 01:22 AM
streetracer,
I have one problem about the fuel you're talking about. None of the hobby shops I deal with carry that brand of fuel.
bob333
11-10-2004, 09:24 PM
go to traxxas.com or tower hobbies if your looking for traxxas top fuel and run 10% nitro that is the best nitro percentage for the traxxas 2.5 engine
streetracer
11-12-2004, 10:43 PM
Ermm..... I beg to differ on that one. As it is a lower amount of nitro, it doesnt give you the performance you need. I have seen performance jumps in my S-Maxx from using 20% to 30% race blends. I use Blue Thunder for the 30% and Top fuel for the 20 everyday racing. But, as i pretty much said, 10% wont get you very far. The only thing its good for is a longer lasting engine with the sacrifice of power.

Also, for those that dont know, the S-Maxx is not the same as Sportmaxx. The S-maxx has a 2 spd stock. Petty much the only difference.

Then I charged my car on it, and it worked!!! but then I was driving around my garage coarseI brought it out to the street and it was wayt faster then I could fast walk, so thenI did a distance test, WITH THE LIGHTS (it was night time) guess how far it went, huh, huh,? 85 feet and it could have keep going i a car hadn't come! But then, I bring it into the kitchen and it can't get farther than 4 feet away from, me, either, 1.radio interfrence 2. freqquency interference 3. 9V fryed the radio or 4. the entenna wire is loose from its sautered post. Well it is easy if you have different color antennas. A fun thing to do is get a like a glossy finish coffe table or something and you know that spray on duster stuff spray it on the table and dont wipe it off and it makes it super slippery. Also another fun thing is put a bunch of paper clips on the wing of the body if you have one and it will pull wheelies forever.

ive got a stock S-Maxx and love it but i was wondering about the handling im a semi-decent driver ive lowered it as much as i can in stock form. but i got the s-maxx thinking i dont need 4wd but ive noticed that the ride handles real loose unstable a bit on higher speed runs bouncy almost i was wondering if 4wd would help make the ride more stable(more controlable and extra weight up front) or maybe a sway bar i can do ok with it stock but unless its in tall grass my kids have had trouble driving it and im tired of replacing parts. i dont expect it to handle like a 1/8 buggy but if there is anything that you guys might think would help let me know thanks alot for any feedback

Upgrade your steering servo and upgrade to a rechargable battery pack other then the 4 aa's. This will give you much better handling, more power and longer runs of your battery.
BishopRyan
02-21-2005, 05:01 PM
i put in a 645mg and a rechargable 1100mah 5 cell turning radius is fine you dont think 4wd would help
streetracer
02-22-2005, 01:28 AM
4 Wheel drive always helps. You will get better handling with 4 wheel drive along with quicker acceleration. But, if you keep it 2 wheel, it is lighter and quicker for stadium racing.
BishopRyan

ok i made some adjustments and ran this morning i think i figured out my prombem ive got excellent steering with the 645mg and i installed a sping loaded servo saver but when i turn it i cant get the servo to rebound back to neutral or straight so when i turn the truck holds its turn until i correct back hence making it difficult to drive with out it naturally return back to a straight line im all over the road recorrecting. i figured the spring loaded servo saver would help me out here ive tried three different servo savers thinking maybe one was bad but no luck i hope someone has some good advice for me thanks

i checked the radio and reciever on a buggy of mine and i used a different radio on my maxx the radio on the buggy worked great and the buggy radio on my maxx still gave me the same problem i really just think the servo saver im using isnt strong enough to bring me back to staight neutral so i did find a proline steering kit thats got a big spring servo saver kinda like the one thats on my hotbodies 1/8 buggy this product was recommended on a different thread i hope it works i should have it in a few days. thats the only thing i can think of.

Did you check to see if your pivot ball caps on your front steering knuckles are to tight. If there to tight that maybe the cause of your problem.Easy way to check is to remove the steering linkage to the steering bell crank and turn the front wheels left and right, if they don't move freely they are to tight and the caps should be loosened until it moves freely without any playin the knuckles.

yeah i did pick up that recommendation on the traxxas site i checked they were a little tight so i loosened them and it helped a little but really only when the wheels were off the ground as i drove it just make hardly any difference at all the only thing left for me was the steering kit i just was out of fresh ideas

Dissconect the servo and servo saver from the steering system. Try turning the wheels by hand. If it is hard or binding, loosen the screws on all joints. I had this same problem. After going through and finding the problem joint, use thread lock and re install the screw a little more looser then it was before.

i just broke down and bought a airtronics high torque servo for about a c-note and wow problem solved i am very impressed with this servo is cost alot but wow then i moved my hitec 645mg to the throttle and everything is great ill just couple the proline steering kit with the airtronics now so i guess you get what you pay for.

A high torque servo is the Best Hopup anyone can Buy I believe...
altho My freinds S-Maxx has No problems turning It just finds it a bit difficult to get around the track..
a high torque/speed servo soon fixes that..;)..
this is a good thread Loads of good info on the S-Maxx...

the servo is so bad ass steering was dial in the best it ever was i ran jumps all weekend using skateboard ramps but now ive got a new problem i was running my s-maxx yesterday and on a high speed run it just cutoff and stopped in its tracks so i went to start it back up and nothing the glow plug light and the engine light on the starter both light up and the electric starter motor just spins but wont crank over the engine i opened up the black case on the back of the engine to see if maybe something was wrong but it looks ok everything spins when i use the starter but nothing catches to fire up the engine the only thing spinning is the electric motor the flywheel doesnt budge i manually pushed the flyweel up and down to see if its binding somewhere but its seems fine is this problem potentially solved if i just remove all that junk and go with a pull starter or could this be a bigger problem. any advice would be great thanks.on another recommendation it is not cold at all here south texas heat and yes the glowplug is warming the thing is, all thats spinning is the electric motor its weird i did have a starting problem when is was cold in winter and used a hair dryer but at that time at least it sounded like it wanted to turn over and then i heated it up and bam fired right up this this is different the flywheel isnt turning just the electric motor its just wizzing away and not a peep from the engine strange just all of a sudden no wreck or water or wipeout i kinda want to just ditch this e-z start and go pull start but i was worried that this might be something else any ideas.

Try richening the low speed needle 1/16th of a turn. Bet that helps you with hot starts, and just starting in general.

But i need the $$$$$$ I only have 100...any suggestions on coming up with 219?
I Finally got my S-Maxx on the local track, nice weather instead of snow and sub 50 temps. The tracks, there are two tracks, are in rough shape the jumps have not been made yet but the barriers are there. I found out I need more practice with it coming out of the corners. Setup is stock so far, exception of body which is a Tmaxx body. With no major jumps it was pretty fast going around the track, maybe that was my problem, not letting off throttle :p
Another guy showed up with a Revo, his first R/C. He couldn't get it started so I used my EZ starter and it fired right up. We really didn't race we ended up just goofing off.
I hope they have the jumps in place real soon, also weather is turning crappy again, rain and snow mixed highs in the lower 40s. Well i am sure by time racing should begin, April 13th, the weatehr will have improved and my driving skills as well.

well evader bx these trucks are pretty durable cuz i already put mine to the test because mine smacked into a tree at top speed and the only thing it broke was the engine:( mount and then my dad made a nother one out of allluminum.the only thing that troubles me is that it is a a little harder to tune because i have to make some ajustmentsbut for being my first real rc i think it has being relly easy the only thing i would trecomend you get is a thermometor so u can get the engine tuned for maximum power but u really dont need it but its handy to have.

All you need to do is for the first tank, start the engine, and let it idle for about half the tank. then pull the trigger 1/4 the way for 2.5 secs, then brake. repeat this for the first tank. then, refuel while the engine is still running, and for the second tank, pull to 1/2 throttle for 3 sec's then brake. For third tank, pull throttle to 3/4's for 3 secs, then brake. for forth tank, full throttle for 3 secs. then brake. Then for fifth and final tank, full throttle for 5 secs then brake. After that, you are set and ready to go. Dont forget to keep a couple of glow plugs on hand. The first plug will die after break in usually.

EvaderBX

well I would go with all aluminum or metal trani gears but leave the spur gear plastic becuase if something is going to break, you would want it to be that on the outside for easy, cheap mantanice (SP?) also i would buy new drive shafts like cvd's.
also, An air scoop is a metal plate ( like the ones on the hoods of like old mustangs) and it mounts on the side of ur goped or on the side of ur traxxas monster buggy and gets more airflow and gives more hp and cools the engine...a cooler engine = more run time.

but doesnt top fuel have the most oil than other fuels most of the other fuels i think only have 16% instead of the 18% that topfuel have and i finished tuning to day and i raced my cusin in his truck which is definetly faster ( a real 1:1 scale tocoma and he was going like 47 and i was still ahead by like 5 feet then he blew my car away wen he floored it. i think i went faster cuz it was tuned real good better than i ever had and cuz i was using my cusins street tires i think they r called th road rage tires from proline.but then it went to 300*f but was runnig it non stop.

I do not consider getting an S-Maxx, for a 100 or so bucks more you could pike up a REVO or T-Maxx but its defenetly worth it. A couple of my friends recently bought S-Maxx's and the Rockers are already rapidily coroding. Thats just my opinion though. And it might not be the truck but from what my friends tell me S-Maxx is'nt the way to go..

On the Revo/S-Maxx issue, I have a Revo and my friend just got his S-Maxx. If he could just keep it from popping wheelies every 2 seconds, it would be just a tad faster on take-off than my Revo. Of course my Revo has titanium skid plates and a few other hop-ups. The S-Maxx is a good truck but I would definitely recommend the reverse module and a wheelie bar. :o

hmm, I'll keep the discussion going ;)
Reverse is a pretty stupid upgrade in my opinion. Why geatly sacrafice acceleration just so you can go backwards? (Which you shouldn't have to do if you know how to drive) 4wd would be worthwhile, however. It helps to keep the front down, and increases the traction.

Hey guys, my maxx got some yellow dual rate springs and yellow body posts not too long ago. It's been running great :D. Do any of you race your S-maxx's?

Well I have a t-maxx that I'm turning into an s-maxx. I want to see the difference in drivability. You guys will laugh at this, but I'm still using my old TRX pro .15. I have this thing ported to the moon. It rocks in my t-maxx so I can't wait to see how it handles in an S-maxx. Everything is stock on my maxx minus the ball bearings that I placed inside the stock servos.

Im sad. My stadium maxx took a turn for the worst. I was driving it in the street in front of my house ( mind you that i have upgraded it so it exceeds over 55 mph ) and i lost control of it. It went head on into on coming traffic and was run over not once, not twice but THREE TIMES! I salvaged all the aftermarket parts i could and just purchased another stadium maxx at tower hobbies. Im kinda glad this happened though. In my backyard i have a bunch of little rocks about the size of footballs for about 30 feet, i am going to try and make my new stadium maxx into a rock crawler. Does anyone have any pics of their s-maxx rock crawlers? Any ways, cya later.

I stopped the order on this stadium maxx order. I recently purchased a JATO for 319 ( same price and an smaxx ) and would like to say goodbye to all. The smaxx was a good truck, good luck to all of you.

Hey kyle, I haven't checked this forum in a while! I got some yellow aluminum bumpers off ebay for only $7 plus $3 for shipping. They are holding up real well, and look awesome. Otherwise go for the rpm bumpers.
I recently bought some new Hot Bodies Threaded Shocks off ebay for $55, they should be here later this week :D

The S-maxx is no less of a monster truck than the T-maxx is. I absolutely LOVE mine, especially with some upgrades. I have Hot Bodies threaded shocks with yellow springs, yellow aluminum bumpers, some RPM stuff, 4wd conversion, paddle tires on the rear...it runs great in the snow. If you and your dad are looking for a budget monster, I would say go with this. I got mine for $290 last year on Tower with the $20 coupon, and that's pretty cheap for a mt. Give me a hollar if there's anything you would like to know about the S-maxx!

Sry for delay, but the Stadium maxx will give you what you want. Great truck, and its fast if you want it, or tune out the second speed gear for single speed.
....oh and uhh BACK FROM THE DEAD!!! :D :D

My friend is thinking about getting one. What comes in the box besides the truck and controller? Does the ez start need a stick pack? what is the best plug(still the mc 59)? Also, what fuel is everyone using? When we go to the lhs it would be nice to have everything purchased so we can break it in on sunday.

Unless its in exceptional condition, you might get a little over half what you've invested in it.

Think you'll need a stick pac for the ez starter, alkalines for the onboard rx and and tx (12 needed) and fuel. You need CA to glue teh tires unless TRX has changed that and some kind of charger for the 7.2v stick pack battery.
I use only MC59s and they've been great. I use either 20% top fuel or 20%monster horsepower depending what on sale at the lhs. Have fun!
