Well, this morning I did my first speed run with the BL setup in the Rusty. To my shock, the speed was more than expected, but was actually right on cue with my speed calculations.
Gearing is still very low for speed testing, but as you can see, the Lehner Basic 4200 and 12 cells, was reaching close to 60K RPM.
Here's the setup.
Totally stock Rusty
Schulze 18.61K controller
Lehner Basic 4200
17/84 gearing
645mg servo
There's ALOT of room for taller gearing. I am going out in about an hour, to try 21/84 gearing. According to the RC calculator, this should net 66mph, assuming motor will reach the same RPM.
Right now, runtime with 60-65% WOT runs, was around 12-15min!!!! Just bashing around should net closer to 18 minute runs.
I will keep you guys posted. Here's a pic of the setup.

Sweet! Have you done any 6 cell runs at all? I'm curious as to how fast it'll be on 6 cells with tall gearing, but not too tall so that there's still torque on tap. And the tranny held up to all that too?! STOCK?!

Believe or not, 6 cells is not so great to run. The system cogs pretty bad at low throttle, and there's not enough RPM's to amount to much. I would much rather have the Novak SS again, is I was going to only run 6-7 cells.
Yes, stock tranny. LOL Not sure how long it wil last, but I do have the aluminum idler coming tommorow.
Trying for 68mph tommorow.!!!!!!!

Sweet. I think I know what my next beater truck will be...:D How's the torque on 6 cells anyways? Is it more powerful than the novak torque wise? I would only assume yes. Thanks for answering these questions... :D

Well, the idler blew apart today finally, so the new aluminum one is now installed.
Yes Thunder, the torque was awesome, once the buggy got rolling, but top end wasnt great, because of the lower RPM/V rating, compared to the SS5800.
IMO, I would go with the 5300 if you were to use 6-8 cells only.

Let me go look for it.

It's weird that you had problems with 6 cells. When I had the same setup up I had no trouble with cogging. It had great torque and a lot more speed than my SS. The top speed was like 40mph with the gecko gps. It was geared 17/81 on 7cells. I had a defective 18.61k though, so I returned it(cutting off problem). Long story short after lots of trouble with everyones favorite east coast vendor I got my money back on it.

LOL! Wow, that just got chewed up! That thing definitely looks weak. So anymore speed tests lately?

No, its pouring rain all day today so far.
I need to prepare well for my next test of 68mph plus.
I think I am going to run a 23T pinion. That with the larger diameter tires, should net about 73mph, if the motor reaches 60000 rpm.(which I do not think it will), but might get me to 68mph. I wish I could use my 21T pinion, but the damn grub screw is pretty much welded into the body of the pinion.
