I have a couple of questions.
My Hacker esc will not be coming in soon. (before Sat.)
Can I use this esc temporary? Using your 540- 8s motor.
I will be running 1/4- 1/2 throttle.

1/4-1/2 throttle seem to heat up controllers the fastest. If its going in an e-maxx, I wouldnt get it.

I already have this controller. I will be using in a B4 or XXX-4 G+

Your motor shipped yesterday, so you should have it tomorrow.

I have found the Kontronik car software extremely poor and useless.
The controller is too small for the motor as well. You risk smoking it
before it even has time to thermal.

Report:

I got home from school, and there it was, the 540- 8s from starluckrc.com

Pretty big! Wires too large for xxx-4, but I managed to cram it in.

I go the Smile 45-6-12 controller, and set it in car mode.
Performance.

NO BRAKES, Any tips? I can't get them to work. I also cant get the system working with a pistol grip car radio, only airplane.

Any help??

The setup is very fast on 6 cells 3300.
On a 21 pinion, the motor gets too hot.
On an 18 its ok, still hot.
The esc is warm. Not close to burning up.

Why is this 81 amp motor running hot @ ~40 amps.
I really would appreciate it if someone could help me with the radio problem/brakes. I have race tomorrow :D
Thanks in advance,
Vova reznik

Every Kontronik I have tried has caused the motor to get extremely hot. I wouldn't advise using it in cars. I've ran 3 different ones, and they all stink.

Here are some pictures of the setup.
The esc did not get hot when running street, but when offroad, it got very hot.
I added a heatsink.

Pictures make the car lok dirty. It is actually very clean. Brand new.
Anyways, with me luck tomorrow. I will be racing 1/8 nitros with this On/off esc with no brakes  :D :D

Are these wires OK to be bent like this?

These are some killer batteries. Lipoly. This car is so powerful it's not funny. With these batts I can drive 20 minutes.

I will have a venom speedometer tomorrow.

That's more than I like to see them bent. General rule of thumb is the bend radius in 10 times the diameter. I would love to see a side exit model, but unfortunately I have very little influence with most of the motors going to the aircraft market.

I got it to work. First I got the Pistol radio, then the brakes!
The whole trick is to arm the esc, then prodram it using your radio of choice.

The problem was that you could not program the esc( High/low endpoints) before arming it. My Pistol radio would not arm it.

So I programmed the ESC with my JR airplane radio. I set very small throttle endpoints.

Then I went back and re-programed it with the pistol grip.
Now I have brakes and All. Woohoo. 11:00P.M. and Im done.

Thanks!!!

Howd the 1/8th racing go?

last time i ran my xx4 i ran with 1/10 gas trucks and qualed 2ed (4sec be hind the leader and 8 total seconds behind 1/8th TQ) i ran the full a main with a quick battery change (the xx4 only needs 2 cilps to hold batterys and body on :D) and ended up in the back of the pack bc of the change.

hope the 1/8s didnt break you and im sure you had fun.

Well.... didn't have too much luck.
I placed my car on the track, went on the stand, and started to hit the throttle.
I made it 1/4 of a way around the track then my receiver stopped working. Then you can guess what happened...

Got nailed by a 1/8 buggy.
Rear shock tower smashed, and shock broken.
Of course, nothing bad happened to the 1/8th :(

I will be receiving a Novak STOCK brushless system this week. I will use it and go to another track where they race electric. www.tfbraceway.com

When I get a Hacker esc, I will use the Feagio motor again.

Interesting !

What do you think of them ? Did you monitor the temp of the pack ?

( I might try them... )

dont feel too bad about getting hit by an 1/8th scale, a few months ago i was running my clod at MT night at my local track when a TMaxx came screaming from behind and hit me, ripped the rear of the body upwards, making the holes huge and cracking the truck bed (it was the stock hard body, luckily the new owner didnt care much), cracked the front fender more, and broke the rear bumper. turns out the announcer was looking for who ever ordered the pizza and it was the driver next to me. it was a guy i knew so it wasn't that bad. the clod was retired from track racing a few weeks later and replaced by an emaxx (with a lexan body of course :P)

Yea the only thing i dont like about those new shock towers is they seem easier to break if you flip or get run over. i had a XXX4 but it was pretty weak i broke a few inner/outer piviots and a few arms (2 were from hitting marshels feet, both not my fault) and i toasted a few belts, donno why it was set right and every thing (even replaced the whole spur assembley.) oh well thats just my luck. now i have a single belt conversion for my XX4 so its all good. havnt run it yet but from other reports its awsome. GL with the lipos and BL
