I have a Novak Cyclone '99 (purple label) with a 4700uF capacitor and the Novak 25 amp diode soldered inline. Do you guys think this ESC is still competitive with the best speedos on the market? Thanks in advance for any replies!

Yah I'd say it's still up there.

I still use a Novak 410 Hyperfet model on occassion, it's not always how good the equipment but how well your competition is. A bad driver with the lastest and best equipmet won't beat a perfect driver with older equipment.

It's true though, when I got into (1982) the hobby and began racing I thought by having the best and latest equipment it would help me do great; boy was did I have some learning. But as my driving improved, the abilty to tune and enhance the equipment I had did I start winning, it got to a point fellow racers were asking me how I went fast. So instead of using less expensive items I purchased what met my needs until today I buy higher end equipment as a just in case option (better to have and not need than to need and can't afford in some cases). At times I still rely on some older equipment that I have more confidence in, and still allow me to finish or do well in competition. For me it's no longer the need to win, but have fun and if I win it's the topping to the cake.

So if you are doing well with the present speed control continue to use, but if you feel it is hindering your ability to do better by all means think of investing in a better more up to date one.

if you can fit it in your chassis it is ok.there is no tremendous change in speed controls (except they became waterproof)

I have two Novak 410's and they are still damn good.

It's still a great ESC. In fact in the programable profile it still has a higher possible drive frequency setting then most high end ESCs today.

Still use mine the only thing I did was change out the cap with a huge novak one, the one used with the GT7 works great and gives me a slighlty better boost in power.

I have the C2 and had the model you are interested in. I actually like the Cyclones better than the GT7. Seem to last longer from the people I have raced with who have owned both.

I run a really big cap too, no problems.
