Atm in my nitro i have a 5cell (6v) RC pack, but i was wondering, why

- why dont we use 6cell, 7.2v packs, like in electrics

cuz most rx's can't handle more than 6.0 volts

but, thats what they run on in all my electric cars

- an BEC Rx should be able to handle 7.2v surely?

I thought an ESC stepped the voltage down to 6? could be wrong.

some might, but i know that both of mine dont (you can see the tracks on the PCB leading stright from the battery to the Rx lead)

i was under the impresion that the new BEC (battery eliminator circuitry) RX's where designed to take upto 7.2v - and looking at the tracks on the Rx PCB all the pwoer terminals are comoned together

- so i know that the servos on some of my cars have 7.2v across them, so i think it should be fine. (i think)

i was just trying to see if anyone else used 7.2v RX packs

Hmmm, well I just read the specs on my Novak Explorer II and it says it's BEC circutry puts out 5.0 volts.

well, im not saying your wrong, infact im intersested to know, but my old Novak ECS (not sure of the model as it was 2nd hand) defonatly gives out the full 7.2

- ah well, i'll get 6 Ni-mh AA cells and try it out :P

- might swap out my High torgue servo first tho :D

I never accused you of saying I was wrong :p I just thought I'd post as much info as I could find. Nothing worse that an intelligent debate without some good solid facts :D

yeah, fine :D

- i was just making sure :p

good, as long as were on the same page ;)

on a side note, 5.0V seems awfully low.

becs are now located in the esc's 99% of the time and they put out 5-6v. bad bec's/esc's claim 5v but may only put out 4.5 or so v's (like the novak evx in the emaxx, i have one) and others like my 7.1 and old C2 put out 5-6v (havnt acctually measured it) i put an 6v RX pack in my emaxx and it really helped steering response.

also recievers now can usualy handal 5-7v easily and some can handall a 9v alkaline. usualy when using higher voltage bec's the rx can take it but servos burn out. so when you use a 6cell rx pack make sure your servo has been known to survive or your using a servo you dont care about. tho its just a little simpler to use a 5c rx pack and avoid any problems :D
