Hey guys, I just thought I would take a little time to tell you about the first ever United States Pan Car Championships. It will be April 28-May 1 2005 at Hobbytown San Antonio in beautiful San Antonio, TX. The classes being run are:

Pro10 6 cell stock
Pro10 6 cell modified
Pro10 4 cell 19T GT1/GTS
Pro10 4 cell stock oval
Pro10 4 cell 19T oval
Pro10 4 cell modified oval
Pro12 4 cell stock
Pro12 4 cell mod
Pro12 4 cell stock oval
Pro12 4 cell modified oval

Entries can be sent to Hobbytown San Antonio (address listed on the flyer)

I am working on some ways to lessen the expense for potential racers (including special hotel rates, cheap flights, possibly get a grill out there and make some stuff trackside). Hope to see you guys walking the Riverwalk next year!

By the way, here is the flyer/entry form:

Hey guys, I just came up with an interesting little concept. I plan on using ROAR rules for qualifying with these exceptions:

1. Instead of using the Q-points system with best 3 scores out of 5 rounds, we will take everyone's three best times out of the 5 rounds
2. Those 3 times will be combined to give a racer's overall time (which will be used to set mains. In case of a tie, best single round will be the first tiebreaker)
3. If a racer DNS a round, they will be given a 0/5:00.
4. If a racer DNF a round, their time will be the number of laps they completed before the DNF/5:00

Of course this is open to criticism and change

Hey folks, a couple changes to the US Pan Car Championships I should make you aware of. First, the race has been rescheduled to May 14-15 from the original April 28-May 1 date. As noted by the new dates, the second point in that the race is being condensed to a 2 day event. Do any of you have an aversion to this. These changes were made as a matter of convenience as well as to ensure we werent competing with a ROAR event (the ROAR Gas Nationals in Harlingen are the same weekend as our original date).

Only 5 months to go! And I just got off the phone with the owner of Hobbytown San Antonio and we discussed a few things regarding the race (including a lack of an entry list which seems to stem from the openness of the entry process). We addressed a few other concerns that have come to our attention in the past few weeks and discussed some very pressing needs that needed to be dealt with immediately. Expect a major update next week (including a firm entry deadline as well as an official schedule).

I'm still not sure if I'll be able to make it...I may have to take some time off school to play with my new car lol :D In any case I'd probably only miss a day or two seeing as its on a weekend.

Hey bro. Glad to see ya going really far with this. If it wasn't too far I'd head down there and have to pick up a pan car. Definately keep us updated with progress and other new things. :)

Here is the official race weekend schedule (And it was a long time coming too):

Friday May 13 Practice Day

10:00 – 10:25 1/10 On-Road (Stock)

10:30 – 10:55 1/12 On-Road (Stock)

11:00 – 11:25 1/10 Oval (Stock)

11:30 – 11:55 1/12 Oval (Stock)

12:00 – 12:25 1/10 On-Road (Mod)

12:30 – 12:55 1/12 On-Road (Mod)

1:00 – 1:25 1/10 Oval (Mod)

1:30 – 1:55 1/12 Oval (Mod)

2:00 – 2:25 1/10 On-Road (19T & Stock)

2:30 – 2:55 1/12 On-Road (Stock)

3:00 – 3:25 1/10 Oval (19T and Stock)

3:30 – 3:55 1/12 Oval (Stock)

4:00 – 4:25 1/10 On-Road (Mod)

5:00 – 5:25 1/10 Oval (Mod)

Also, I just finished talking with the owner of Hobbytown San Antonio and if you wish to enter a second class it is $25 for the second class and $15 for the third class or thereafter. Also, we are making an exemption for ONLY the 12th scale oval class (due to the lack of available bodies on the market): If you run 12th scale stock or mod oval ONLY, you can run a GTP body if you cannot find a 12th scale NASCAR body for your car.

Ok guys,

After some VERY lengthy talks with my partners in San Antonio, here are a few amendments to the USPCC rules:

1. 3300 max battery size (because the 3600 and 3700 batteries are not officially legal and we are running ROAR rules we cannot allow anyone to run those batteries. I apologize to any of you who have switched over to the higher capacity batteries but that is the final word on that

2. For all classes (except 12th oval, more on that in a moment) you are allowed to run up to 6 cells maximum in all classes. This means that if you want to run 4 cell in 12th scale, you can. If you want to run 4 cells in any of the other oval classes, you can. All this means is that you can't go running 7 cell packs in your cars.

3. Brushed motors only

4. The early entry date has been waived as well as the late fee. We will take entries until 9:30 AM May 14. But if you are one of the first 25 people to enter you will get a free t-shirt (We will be selling shirts at the track as well). It is $35 for the first class and $15 for each additional class

5. For 12th scale oval, it is 4 cells maximum and NASCAR bodies only

Please disregard the previous post

Ok, let it be known that number 2 is wrong. After much negative backlash, and the potential for this race going into the tank, 12th scale, all oval classes, and 10th scale 19T GT1 are 4 cell ONLY

Thats good to know, what about the Friday Practice session. Do you need to be there on Friday to compete Saturday? You said that you'd be taking entries as late as may 14 which is Saturday, so I'm assuming the answer to that question is no. Will you take entries right up to the bitter end, like literally until the last second before race day starts? Also any idea how many folks are gonna be out there? What about pro drivers?

aspiringrcracer710
04-10-2005, 11:32 PM
We are taking entries until 9:30 AM Saturday. You do not have to be there Friday to compete Saturday or Sunday. If you have not submitted your entry before 9:30 AM on Saturday the 14th (which is 30 minutes before the drivers meeting), your entry will not count. We have 20 signups from Texas, although I will get a list of all who have signed up so far tomorrow. No word on pro drivers as of yet. I will contact Brent Thielke this week (Im guessing he has been with the AE drivers at teh Losi Champs in FL the last few days), but I should get my first indication of any works presence in teh next week or three. The only other thing I have to add is that you miss out on getting a free T-shirt if you wait until May 14 to enter so Id get it in now. The shirts are being made as I write this

Cool do you know what the shirt design will be? Is it like the entry form? BTW I'll be coming out all the way from California! I'll be visting some friends while I'm there, but its still a large trip for an RC race.

I got this suggestion from a racer on another message board and thought I would bounce this idea off you guys:

"Its like advertising a race for 1970's. pacers..yeah there will be some who will have interest but how many gonna tow them to Texas! to race?

I think not. bowy.

US PanCar Guy.. heres what you should do.

Look throughout the US and have areas where poklep actually run these cars./. then have a local race there.. go to the poeple and create a series.. like the rc pro dirts series or TCS.. then have a nationals after that. Just haveing a antional champs don't mean anything.

You need to build on local racer scenes first then have a big meet in the middle.

You should call your texas race us pan car champs series race #1 then have one or two on the west coast , central and east and south east. each race has a winner and runners up. you build momentum that way to lead up to a nationals.

Without local support in different areas it makes no sense for anyone to go that far for a club race.

Take a look at the rcpro sereis, TCS or HPI Challenge.. then you understand."

In short, what do you think of "The Road to the US Pan Car Championships" There would be regionals across the country over the next year with a big final race as opposed to just having one big race in a location that not everyone can get to?

BJ, That was what I've been trying to tell you to do from the start. You've always had huge, and I mean HUGE, ideas but you've always put the cart before the horse when it come to planning these things. I would hate it for the sponsors of the race to get let down due to poor organization and frankly I'm not so sure you'll have much of a race at all at this point. Anyways, my email/IM is kartruns now if you want to chat. Later! Brad

I understand Brad. This race has been a trial by fire for me. With it being my first major race undertaking, frankly Im kind of glad I got these mistakes out of the way in the first year than later on down the road! Thanks for supporting me throughout this process, and thanks for helping me work on the big surprise for next year (Sorry folks, your gonna have to wait to hear about that one. Hey. no point in showing your cards until someone calls your bet ;) )
