My guess is that they're all Aeromarine hulls. Kinda weird that he has Prather decals on them though (Commander and Spitfire).
The site looks strangely like the Spencer Park site at Rochester Hills, MI in the pit area shot.

I was wondering that same thing seeing as how I only saw one Prather in his trailer (FunCruieser).

They are all areomarine hulls in that photo. And yes they are available in a kit or ready to run. They are running gas in the pic but you can get them with nitro if you prefer.

97, if you're taking requests, a racer that was there had his film ruined by water damage and would like to know if you happened to get any shots of a yellow Gas Aeromarine Challenger. You can post it here or e-mail it to me if you got one.
T-Mod racing is proably the name of his own racing team. I have a name for mine! :)
Doc, look around on www.impba.net or www.namba.com, there used to be a lot of boat racers and races in Georgia, mostly around the Atlanta area.

I don't know. Maybe he will come in here and join up!
The Jackrabbit Racing trailer is Don Ferrette's and possibly the twin SGX 'rigger is his. Kevin Bulifant was there with his OB tunnels which might be the ones you got a shot of. Over on the "Other" site, the guys said that it was a Helluva race, that most of the trophy getters had to wait until the last race to see who won.

Ron, the twin on this page wasnt Don's (Dons is just as impressive though)it was some other guys, I forget his name though. Hes from the DC area. The picture at the top of page two is one of my 20 tunnels. The pic below that of the table with the four tunnels belongs to the Gilbert family, they came up there with me for the race. It was definately a good race for sure.
97trakin, are you the guy with the pony tail and was running the little 3.5 tunnel?

OK, thanks for clearing that up. I knew that Don was there by seeing his trailer and his postings on another site. He said that he was running a twin CMDi 'rigger so I assumed that it was his.

Dons rigger was probably the most consistant F rigger out there. that says alot for a twin...
His 20 rigger was really quick too, all top notch stuff and a nice guy to boot. His boats are all painted the same paint scheme as his trailer, which I thought was pretty darn cool...

the AC lazer thats in pics 51 & 52 is mine. Finally got the bugs out and got it to run well for this race. ended 4th place overall in gas mono and 3rd place overall in cracker box. The red and white cracker that you took a race shot of is mine as well. Looks like you did a great job with the camera and can't wait to see some more when you get a chance to post them.

I think there were a couple of microbursts in gas mono, but most of the boats there were A/C lazer 45's. Mike's and mine are hard to tell apart on the water, his has red glitter finish striping and mine had a copper glitter striping on it. Sometimes even we catch ourselves trying to steer each others boats!!!

Too bad they are only 45" long in that style. I would like a little bigger for rougher water. Maybe there are a few advantages to it being a bit smaller than my WHH 57 Magnum. Fit easier in my Mustang for one. :D Shorter may be tougher? Less area to get pounded by waves!

CAN is dreaming of a Lazer also. :D
Me too, but I've got a 36" AM Cat on the way that will be seeing a 230PUM over the winter.

FlyerCAN, these hulls are great in rough water. 2 years ago at the Ford Model Boat Club race, some of the North Coast Pond Hoppers showed up with their Laser 45's and they took the rough water very well. The pond that we used is enclosed with a steel wall so the waves bounced back into the course so it got really rough.
Mike T

The 45" Lazer is THE hot boat in gas mono right now and is one great rough water boat and also corners well. We have several in the club (including John C.) and it's head knocking racing all the way. At that event we ran a grudge match after the regular racing was over. 4 boats came forward. Two gas cats, one twin nitro rigger, one 45" Lazer with a Zenoah 260. The Lazer led the whole way.
The T-Mod Racing rigs are mine. T-Mod Racing is my race team name and also the name attached to the mufflers and prop tools I sell. I do engine mods for some of the others in the club as well. BTW my Aeromarine Cat and Lazer shown in the pics here took first in their respective classes and are leading in club season points as well. I also built the Lazer (and the Zenoah in it) that won the grudge match.
The fellow who runs all the boats with the Commander markings is Larry Grosser out of the Washington, D.C. club. He has a ton of them, mostly Aeromarine and a few Seaducers. They have big nitro motors, or gas Quickdraw 25's in them. The red-and-blue boat in the background in one pic is actually a TwinCraft 46" with a Zenoah 260. Larry is a strong supporter of the sport and is a retired Naval officer. I can only assume that his prior rank has something to so with his adoption of the Commander theme.

A.C. Models boats out of Kelowna, British Columbia, Canada makes them. Look for their ad in RC Boat Modeler Magazine, or contact Dom Mauro on Jim's RC Boat Dock message board (his handle there is AC Lazer), or Brian Watts at Rocket City Racing to get one in the U.S. without waiting for it. The factory often has a backlog of orders.
They are a bit pricey but worth it. All the sparkle, striping and color on mine were molded into the gel-coat (even the transparent windshield). No paint there. The lettering was done by Vinyl Graffiti.
Here's a post on Jim's with some pics of a new Lazer. http://p086.ezboard.com/fjimsrcboatdockfrm2.showMessage?topicID=3373.topic
Another note: An A.C. boat similar to the Lazer was used by the guys at M&D Design (in Cincinnatti) to set the current IMPBA LS-27 gas mono straightaway record of a bit over 75 mph.

Whats up Mike hows it going? Hows Ricks cat coming along? Do you remember Don, they guy with the LOUD AM Challenger 43" with the 260 in it. Well I put a whopping on him with my little Prather with the 230 in it. The only problem I have is holding the bouys tight in the turns with my hull.
I've been telling people that if you match the 230 with a light hull and prop it to match you can kick butt.

09-04-2004, 01:32 PM
Hi Romeo. First, thanks for posting these pictures - now we need to see the rest :-)
Last time I saw Don's 260 Aeromarine Challenger run it looked like it was flying, so it sounds like you've got yours running well, too. I'm swapping some engines around; the G23 PUM is going back into my red Twincraft, so maybe we can dice it up some next time. The QD-25 will go into an Insane Cat I'm pulling together (or up for sale to buy another 260 and some other things).
I got Rick's 260 apart and found the piston had seized at some point, so now it needs a new cylinder and piston. It's a wonder it ran as well as it did. Parts are on order and I can't do anything until they get here. It's best not to even run a 260 before you adjust the piston clearance. This is the third one I've seen recently with a seized piston.
So you're painting the Prather again?
97TRAKIN
09-04-2004, 01:41 PM
Yea I gotta do it. I'm painting it just like a stock Prather Commander. Looks good but not to flashy.

Yes, as Mike said, please post some more of the pics from the race. These are a great bunch of guys and I am glad to have met and made friends with them. Mike is a great guy and we did a lot of email chatting before getting to meet in person and when we both get on the pond, watch out!!!
Mike is also right on the money about the piston scoring problem. almost all the 260's will do this unless you turn down the top of the piston. I think is has to do with the fact that these motors were originally made as air cooled motors and with water cooling the jug it just doesn't expand as much as it would with air cooling.
