I am placing an order with tower hobbies to buy a charger. i was considering getting the intellipeak digital pulse or the superbrain 969. i was also going to buy the deans bulb discharge kit. the final thought was to buy the quasar pro charger which has a 20 amp discharge. the bottom line is i want the most reliable charger possible. i heard alot of bad things about the 969. it seems the intellipeak charger has the least complaints. any input would be great. i'd like to spend less than 200. dollars on a charger. any other charger suggestions would be great. i plan on using this charger to race my losi xxx at my local track.

The 969 works well for me. It's the 959 that has more problems (and there's a $50 difference between them).

i have the digital intellipeak. im really happy and have no complaint about the charger. but if i can choose again, i would buy the quasar pro. cos it has the 20 amps discharge. the intellipeak also has discharge but it only 10 amps and its not constant. it goes down as the batt voltage decrease.

I have the 969 and so far it has been flawless, my local shop charged my $99 for it.
Lets see, I can charge, 2 at once, charge one and discharge at once. It also lets you change just about any charging parameter you want.
One thing is the fan is loud, and when charging 2 packs at once it gets hot.
I use matched 3600 Nm packs.
With my TT-01 with a P2k2 motor I get 35min of run time, not to bad!
It's the old version of the 959 that has the problems, right?

I know you may think it's an old design (actually it is), but you might want to take a look at a Tekin BC112c. I think TeamTekin will be offering them in the $160-$170 range. These things can charge 1-12 cells, are NiCad and Ni-MH compatible, can charge as high as 10 amps (and up to 12 amps for a short period of time), have flex charging for Ni-Cads, have overload protection and the list goes on. I recently saw one of these used on eBay with the discharger (DIS 350) that attaches to it for about $120. That would be an awesome combination. Hope this helps!

Keep this in mind.
Quasar does have a recall right now, but is a good charger. Don't buy it just because it has a discharger. I use a separate discharger to keep things going. So your charger isn't hung up discharging, plus the added strain on the electronics. I've been using an Integy discharger, with auto cutoff and 20A. Having them separate has been nice.
As for a charger, the 969 has two flaws, one is the 4.5Amax rate of charge, and the power supply with it is questionable IMO for charging two packs at high amps. But, it does support more than just Nicd and NiMH which could be beneficial as lithium packs come down in $$.
Sometimes investing in a DC power source and going better like a CE Pitbull X3 or Pulsar Sport might be better in the long run if you want to stay racing!
I'm using an X3 and Yokomo BCSD, and had a 959 and Piranha peak charger.
Later.

i have a novak millenuim and a millenuim pro, and they are great chargers, never had a problem with them over heating, or breaking and false peaking has never been a problem. unless i used really old 2400s that were/are in bad shape (i have some even older 2400's and they charge fine on it) the mil you can only get used now from 60-80 and 70 being the usual. the pros range from 70-120 with 90-120 being the usual, and they can be bought new. they dont dishcarge but its not really needed and it keeps the cost down. plus when you have a seperate charger and discharger you can charge and discharge batteries at the same time.
i reccomend the integy 20a tray if you have sidexside packs. i wanted one but got a much cheaper trinity real time 2 tray. both work fine but i like the higher amp integy tray because its closer to most matchers discharge specs and it does individual cells. and you dont need a high amp discharger and a tray so it cuts down on bulk and cost.
and the novaks need a 12v source and i sell small and light power supplys, pm me for info

I would go with the Competition Electronics Pit Bull X3 it is small and weighs hardly anything. It is very easy to see at night, not to mention lots of adjustable settings, the only downside is it requires a dc power supply but if you want good stuff you will need a dc power supply anyways.

If you are serious about racing and can get a few extra $$$, get a used CE T35. They can be found for around $200 to $250.

The Lrp Pulsar Competition charger is one of the best in my opinion, they have it here for the best price that I have seen. Also, they provide you with great service, which is a must for me.
