Hi all,
I'm new to Radio Controlled anything. I have a brand new Wicked Angel boat, which after reading here, doesn't sound like a good thing. But I'm stuck with it so I'm going to try to get it working correctly.

The boat isn't accelerating fully. It is very quiet. I thought the Nitro motors made sort of a screaming noise when they rev up. It starts fine and seems to accelerate a little, but nowhere near 35 mph - maybe 10mph. The servo seems to be opeing the carb fully. I'm using 30% fuel and have put in a new glow plug - no difference. I've adjusted the high speed mixture within the limits specified by MegaTech - 2-1/4 to 2-3/4 turns out. The only thing I can think of is to lean it out a little more, because it seems to almost spit gas out of it, but I'm afraid of burning it down. The engine temperture seems about right according to what I've read.. ie. I can touch the head after running it with no problem.

I'm stumped...

Try leaning it out a little at a time. The carb on this boat is very sensitive so make small changes. You should be able to touch the head for a few seconds or place a drop of water on the head to see if it bubbles or boils.

Thanks for the quick response Ron...
That worked!! I'm at just over 2 turns out and it runs very good. The head is a little hotter, but not scorching. It's more like you described - you can touch it for a few seconds without problem.

Now I have another problem - It's too fast for me to control! I suppose I'll figure that out in time.

You'll get used to it in no time. Wait until you move up to a real race boat! I prefer faster boats myself, they seem to be easier to drive at a race with the long straightaways.
Pick up a quart of 40-50% Nitro and you can squeeze a few more MPH out of it.

TRIM TABS??? TRY PLAYING WITH THEM TILL YOU GET BETTER CONTROL. THAT SHOULD DO THE TRICK. YOU WILL ALSO HAVE TO ADJUST THEM DEPENDING ON WATER CONDITIONS. ROUGH/SMOOTH

40-50%????Won't you fry the motor???If not can I run that in my 1/12 miss bud? I have stepped up to 20%. How high can I go with out damage to the motor and how much more speed are we talking about?

IT WILL WEAR THE MOTOR OUT SOMEWHAT FASTER THAN THE LOWER NITRO %.(BURNS HOTTER!!) YOU WOULD MAYBE WANT TO ADD SOME X-TRA OIL, DEPENDING ON THE BRAND YOU USE.

AS FOR FASTER??? WITH THAT BOAT AND ENGINE I DON'T THINK THAT YOU WOULD REALLY SEE A DIFFERENCE. IF YOU PUT A RADAR ON IT WITH SAME RUNNING CONDITIONS YOU MIGHT SEE A LITTLE INCREASE IN TOP END, BUT MOSTLY IN THE TORQUE. AS FOR THE COST, IF YOU DON'T KNOW ALREADY ITS CLOSE TO DOUBLE WHAT YOUR PAYING FOR 20%.

IF YOU WANT FASTER-GET A BETTER BOAT & MOTOR.

I did this to a friends boat a few years back. He was running wimpy 10 or 20% and I loaded his tank up with some of my 50%. The boat went from cruising to on the edge of control with the boost. If you have enough oil in there,18-20%, you probably won't see any more wear. You have to richen the mixture with higher nitro. I run the same fuel in my .12's as I do in my 7.5 mono.
