The can says that is not to be used in boats but my LHS guy swears it is ok? Is that why my Nitro hammer runs hot? I am using 20% and the head gets red hot! If it is bad what fuel can I use? Thanks!

Red hot tells me you aren't getting cooling water to the head. Try blowing backwards through the cooling system and see if it's blocked. This isn't a fuel problem at all.

hj is right (yet again...) check your cooling system to make sure it's clear. what's your needle setting??? if you're too lean you'll run super hot too. my fuel of choice for my hammer is trinity moster 20% or 30%. a lot of other people have run the trinity fuel in their hammers and like it, but i don't know anything about the traxxas fuel.

The hobby shop where I got my fuel said the use traxxis top fuel for everything except plains. I run it and my hammer stays cool.

I have alot of water coming out of the side of the boat and the lines seem to be clear. I may be running too lean. How will I know what is the right setting?

i'd say go back to the factory break in setting and work from there. if you have plenty of water coming through, you must be too lean. or there isn't enough oil content in the fuel. boats require more oil than cars do.

HMM, GOTTA JUMP IN THIS ONE. :D

orthogod1-DO YOU HAVE A HOLE OF SOME SORT IN THE CANOPY ABOVE THE ENGINE?? IF NOT DO SO!

AS FOR YOUR SETTING, HERE GOES... IF AND I SAY IF YOU HAVE RAN 10+ FULL TANKS ON YOUR ENGINE, THEN THIS IS HOW TO FIND THE BEST SETTING. IF NOT KEEP BREAKING IN THE ENGINE.

FIRST HAVE YOUR NEEDLE SET A BIT RICH.(SHOULD BE ABOUT TWO TURNS LEFT FROM TOTALLY CLOSED.
FROM A COLD START UP, HAVE YOUR TOOL FOR TURNING NEEDLE READY.
GIVE FULL THROTTLE AND HOLD IT, WHILE HOLDING, TURN THE NEEDLE TO THE RIGHT. LISTEN TO THE ENGINE REV, AS WELL AS HOW MUCH SMOKE COMES OUT OF THE PIPE. GET IT TIL THERE IS ALMOST NO SMOKE OUT THE BACK AND THEN TURN BACK LEFT ABOUT A 1/8-1/16 OF A TURN. THAT SHOULD DO IT, OR AT LEAST BE REAL CLOSE!

THIS PROCESS SHOULD ONLY TAKE A SECOND OR SO, REMEMBER NOT WATER COOLING!! THEN PUT IT IN THE WATER AND SEE HOW SHE GOES. IF YOU CAN RUN FULL THROTTLE WITHOUT IT SEEMING TO LOOSE POWER THEN YOUR SET. IF IT SEEMS TO HESITATE OR POWER SEEMS TO BE GOING IN AND OUT. BRING BACK IN AND TURN NEEDLE TO THE LEFT A BIT MORE. BECAUSE THE ENGINE LEANS OUT IN THE WATER, SO YOU MAY HAVE TO MAKE MINOR 1/16 MAX ADJUSTMENTS. THIS OF COURSE AGAIN IS IF YOUR ENGINE IS NICE AND BROKEN IN.

WHEW- :)

T. Top fuel will run a little hotter than Blue Thunder, but not much. I've been using Maxy's. It doesn't gel up as easily as some of the others and runs a little cooler.

Oh Yeah Fuel, Thats Not Your Problem. I Personally Use Elimanator. So As For Fuel, Anything 20-30% Should Be Fine. Try To Get Something With 14% Oil If You Can.

White thunder doesn't have any oil in the mixture, I believe. So its not going in my boat. I think I'll try O'donnel next. 18% oil baby.

Doc, my LHS just started to carry the trinity monster. I have been using Eliminator 20% @ 14% oil, by wildcat. Doc what do you think of the monster & do you notice a difference between the 20 to 30%.

Monster has like 9% oil!! :O I ran it fine for a long while. I still race my off road with it and no ill effects. Burns clean...

Monster horsepower has 12% oil, monster brew has 16%. Either should work for boats. Platinum racing blend is what has only 10% oil.
