Hi, I used a transponder for the first time the other night and they guy who put it on my car used a Y plug to conect my steering servo and the transponder into the same reciever hole. I have a 2 chanel reviever on a TC3 so i have the battery slot spare. Can i plug the transponder into the battery slot and do away with the Y conector? On the AMB site they said you can use a servo or battery slot. I just wanted to know for sure before i buy one please.

Nice question !!! the face of transponder should face directly downward to asphalt ( no obstruction such as chassis, wheels, suspension arms ) and perhaps you can mount it as close as possible to the road surface. 1 inch distance is perfect, 5 inches should be okay. FYI, those AMB transponder have battery inside, the weaker the battery, the poorer the signal transmission.
You can mount it on the lexan body just like what I did ( mini cooper's roof )
Once I stupidly place the transponder facing sideway .... and I really paid the consequences heavily. The AMB machine can't record my lap ( no beep tone ) and I threw away my chance of getting the first or second place.

ASW, I think you're talking about the older-style transponders, thoseused(& some still do use) batteries, & they have to spend time in a charger/cradle between runs. But Brad is talking about using personal transponders, that you buy yourself & will work with ANY AMB personal transponder system(you enter your PT's serial number in the computer there & then it'll be able to identify it as your car). And a personal transponder actually runs off the Speed Control's BEC(battery eliminator circuit), so it has no internal battery. As for plugging it in, yes, you can use the BATT slot on your reciever(which is what I do), or use a servo slot(but if you do, you need to either do it on a 3-channel reciever or use a Y-harness for 2 devices to share one slot)......

well, i found that transponder online, it seems that it only goes channels 0-9 like the track ones and it costs $87.00. wow, guess it isnt cheaper. well somebody needs to come out with a new transponder to bring the price down. amb's are selling for around 80-85 bucks now. pretty rediculous.
