Wonder if anyone out there interested in seeing pictures of my new,own design 28'' span Tiger Moth? The model weighs in at 10 oz,is powered by a Simprop 280 geared unit driving an APC 10x4.7'' prop.GWS Naro RX,
2x naro servos,270mAh 7 cell Ikarus nicad,
Ikarus ESC.I have achieved flights of 13 mins plus, the model can cope with 5-10 mph winds easily,if enough interest is achieved I will produce plans to build this traditionally constructed model, controlled by elevator/rudder.Follow this link: http://www.geocities.com/grumman_uk/web-28.html
Many thanks,Matt.

Nice plane!

Consider using Sanyo Twicell 700 AAA NiMH cells instead, they weigh the same but last much longer.

Thanks for the info.Jochen about the NiMH cells,2 questions:What kind of duration can be expected from these cells, are any special procedures required when charging them?
Where can I buy them,I live in the U.K.
Thanks,Matt.

Matt,

if you get 13+min from 270mAh then I think your current is about 1A. At this low current I would expect 30+, perhaps 40min of flight time. I have a model that loads the Speed280 up to 2,5A on the bench, and I have enjoyed flights of 18-20min. You might need 8 cells due to the somewhat higher internal resistance of this cells. 8x700 Twicell/Speed 280/4:1 gear/APC SlowProp 9x6 is my preferred drive combination for park flyers up to 300g.

With a GWS drive I once had a 45min flight with a really lightweight model from 6 Twicell 700, but then the motor brushes failed (common problem with GWS drives at longer runs).

I have used my Graupner Turbomat 4 charger at 1A (delta peak method) without problems. I use an Ansmann ACS 410 now (DM 69,- universal NiMH/NiCd microprocessor charger) available from www.accu-profi.de (http://www.accu-profi.de) . I don't know if they ship to the UK (I myself am lucky to live about 10 miles from their shop http://www.rcmicroflight.com/ubb/smile.gif

Have fun!
