My friend told me today, that he read some where that the antenna length is match to your receiver. If you cut your antenna down, it will burn up your receiver. Has anyone heard of this before?

It won't burn up you receiver, it'll just pick up more spurious signals. The length of your antenna is "cut" to match the frequency it's designed to receive. So, if you cut the length, you've changed the frequency response of your antenna to be more apt to picking up a different frequency. In essence, causes more interference. About the only way I can think of burning up your receiver from cutting the antenna length is if you cut the antenna length to match the oscillator frequency from a radio station, and then ran your car/truck around the base of the transmission tower.
