There was some correspondence a while back (on another forum) about trying to reverse engineer the download/upload formats for transmitters. We know this can be done because people like JR sell a Datasafe product which can store/restore Tx settings.
I would like to write some fancy PC software that makes it easier to create and edit the sort of data we have to press lots of confusing buttons to do on our Txs. Having it on a PC would also make it possible to have HELP available - something sadly lacking in some manufacturers' manuals.
There would be no limit to the software - you could immediately see the effect of a change on a graphic of your aircraft etc.
Anyway, does anyone know if the formats are available from anywhere?
I come from the (relatively) open standards of telecoms (fax, DECT phone, mobile phones - all owe their success to open standards) but the aeromuddling world does not seem to have caught up yet. Wouldn't it be great if Futaba, JR etc. all got together and agreed common formats - that would really open up the market to third party products that would help us and help them. After all, newcomers are frequently put off by how complicated things are becoming these days - the more newcomers who stay in the game, the more up-market systems Futaba, JR and others could sell.
Personally, I may not have a brain the size of a planet, but I find the stuff in the helicopter sections of Tx manuals HARD - and frequently downright WRONG! Having it on a PC would make it easier for us all - experienced flyers and newbies.
