I am new to the heli community and need some questions answered. I am looking at getting a micro and was wondering what is a good brand and model. I plan to mainly fly inside (after learning the heli first) and in my backyard. I am not looking to do 3d but would like to get something that is upgradeable has my skills get better.
What would be my best opition for flight time lipo or nimh, also where can I get the best deal (I know that is a loaded question sorry) and are there any brands I should stay away from. I have heard that they are harder to fly then full size but I have a new son and don;t have the $1200 for the inital investment for a 30 size. Any info would be very helpful.

Hi,
You will get a much quicker response by posting in the helicopter section. Most of the heli guys are like me, they would not realize from your title that you are talking about helicopters.

I've had two small heli's and they were both pretty junky. I could fly neither. Years ago I had a Schluter Helibaby that I could fly fairly well, so I am not quite a beginner, but also not very advanced or current.

In asking around I have been told not to bother with anything less than a Shogun. No personal experience, but after looking at one I think that is what I am going after.

Li Poly is fantastic. So are brushless motors.

Heli's are not cheap and in the beginning you can expect to spend some money on repairs, especially replacing blades and tailbooms.

The shogun is 3D, but you don't have to start out set up for 3D.

I have one of those little MRC heli's that flies on a tether, and it is great fun, I can fly it in the house or on my friend's deck right off the table. (after his wife has left!) I have crashed it and replaced all four blades and was back to flying in just a few minutes. It is very limited, but it is good practice. A good flight simulator (I've got the Great Planes one) is a real benefit in getting yourself ready for taking your chances on a free flying machine.

Good luck, whatever you choose.
