I just purchased a XXX-T Matt Francis 2 for racing at my local track. AAll they rub is a Mod class, so I know I will need decent equipment. I decided to go with the GT7 and MX-3s. I need a little help with the charger, batteries and motor. I need a AC/DC charger and was thinking about going with the Integy 16x3V6. Is this charger worth it? How do I know what type of motor(turn wise) to select and batteries to select? I am on a limited budget.

the radio and esc is a great one, for an acdc charger the novak ionic is a great budget charger, and for a motor grab a 19t, trinity chemelion pro2. any GP 3300 would be great and promatchracing.com and surgebatterymatching.com both have awsome batteries (you only need 1.15s or 1.16's)

If they are racing mod and the track is relatively large, I would recommend a mod motor with lower turns such as a 12 turn or less. This is because if you run a 19 turn with people running 10 turns than you will find yourself a lot slower than the competition.

Some items are going to be a bit more expensive but you'll get better use out of them. For Integy go with the 16x5, 16x7 or 16x9 chargers, batteries GP3300 available from alot of places at different prices. Most will be good for offroad mod. Now for the motor - track conditions dictate which turn and wind you use it does dictate speed - modified motors generally regardless of turns or wind will reach the same speeds but are selected for their on throttle or low end power. A very low turn/wind motor produces to much low end power to be used when traction is bad so instead of using a 10 turn single (10X1) a 10 turn triple or 11 turn double, even a 12 turn single may be better suited for track conditions. Right now the Reedy KR is the ideal motor for offroad and touring car, a 12x2 or 13x2 may work. Check the Stormer Hobbies page and get a Fantom K wound motor-generally cheaper and performs better than a Reedy. They are also available in more winds single, doubles, triples and possibly quads in 7-16 turns. For those experienced in setting up, rebuilding mod motors the cheap way is to buy 1-2 complete motors and a couple more armatures in a different turn/wind then use the armatures in place of the one in your complete motor (swap aramtures) to tune motor power to suit track conditions. One motor may be to much power, then other may seem to mild using a replacement armature in between and installing that should taper motor to track conditions.
Also ask the racers what they are using for a motor, number of turns and winds, gearing suggestions, brush and springs used, timing and other setup suggestions. Most racers will be glad to help and offer suggestions don't be afraid to ask and also what and where they get their batteries etc. Reedy has a new machine wound motor Flash Point which is cheaper but good for first time or people who can't afford a true hand wound modified motor. To achieve close to the same results as a hand wound motor use one turn less with the machine wound motors or gear up one tooth.

for batteries go to promatch batteries. Do Not buy the novak ionic. it only charges up to 4 amps. you can find them cheap buy you need at least 5 amps for racing. that size track you will need at least 12 turn motor.
you will end up getting a comm lathe also. you may also want to consider going to a d/c only charger and buying a power supply.

AC/DC Chargers are perfeclty fine for the novice, but you pay for what you get here is by set up (eletronics).

Kinetix 3300 Stage 3 (www.kinetixrc.com)
Integy 10 amp power supply (www.integy.com)
Competion Electronics Pit Bull X3 (www.competitionelectronics.com)

This is an excellent set up oh and for motors go with the Fantom K doubles series great punch and run very well.
