Hi
I'm new to forum. I've got so much out of reading everyones threads and have had a lot of fun. SO thank you to those who contribute. I only started on boats this past spring and got the mis bud 1/12. Did the main mods such as prop and autobailer and even purchased a cen 0.18 which really did improve acceleration, but not top speed which according to gps was 24.7mph. Slow, but still looks cool. So far no cracks on hull, but probably only ran for a good 4 hrs total. Still fun. I converted the little one to electric. Used a brushless aveox 1406 2y with an ez 30 controller which I burnt up. I then purchased a jeti 70 controller which worked well, but kept on cutting out. Using 12 cells, the motor was too small. Waiting for my hacker clone and will give that a try on a water cooled barracuda.

In the mean time, I've been messing with a thunder tiger falcon tunnel hull with is a blast! light little plastic boat with a 21 ob. Really fun. But then I purchased a miss bud 1/8. Woo hoo...my first venture into gas engines. Love the torque compared to the nitro, but whats up with the turning? My 1/12 turns right like on rail at 3/4 to full throttle. this 1/8 was not turning well and scared me. had to slow down.

now my question
the rudder is on the left side of the prop on the 1/8 and on the right side of the prop on the 1/12. Does it make a difference? Would it be better to switch to the right side?

Also, I've read that folks are having trouble with the torque of the zen 260. would a modified 23 with tuned pipe (most likely bh hanson since he is in my town) be a better avenue. I read of the "flighty" characteristic of a speeding miss bud. Instead of taking of the front wing/stabilizer/???, can putting a peice of metal angled same as rear wing be an option?

sorry for the 101 questions for a first post, but I did a search and no answers were obvious or can be inferred from the other posts.

again,
thank you

raytam

If you get one of Bruce's engines, your problems will magnify as his mills are a little hotter than what you already have.
What exactly is the steering problem? Not enough servo throw to turn it or handling problems?
We like 101 questions and are here to help out the new boater. I'm not to hot on Gas boats but a lot of the things are the same.

I know some about gas boats. The rudder on it looks a little small (but, then again, I know about deep vees, not hydros) My Enforcer has 2 rudders, and each one is bigger than that one on the Pro Boat. (http://www.whobbies.com/store/picserve.cgi?picserve=/rh4040.jpg), but, maybe hydros don't need as much rudder? (someone help me out here)

On the 1/8th scale nitro boats here in Western Washington, the guys pretty much use a 2.5" to 3" rudder. All of these are sharpened almost razor sharp and most have the machined in water pickup. Never seen one have a hard time getting the boat to turn yet. I've got some races to go to next Saturday and the following weekend, so I'll see about getting some pics of the rudder set up off a couple of boats.

sleepy's question about the wing gave me an idea. what about putting a thin piece of aluminum on the front canard?? you could adjust it similar to a flap on a aircraft wing. prather puts them on their outboard 'riggers, that's where i saw the idea for the first time. it would be an easy fix for the lifting problem. anyone try it yet? or would it even work?
