How would one break in a 540 silver can motor for super power?

i would put a pinion on the shaft and spin the shaft for a bit. Doing this will take down the drag between the brushes and the comm, along with freeing up the bushings in the motor.

An old trick we used to do is to break in the motor underwater. It really does work and it won't blow up.

Several methods are used a slave motor setup that is connected to motor being broken in, battery operated Dremel that converted to turn in reverse direction, 4cell battery pack, power supplies either with a 5volt tap or adjustable voltage output. The water dipping method was used when on 6 and 7 cell packs were used both for quick breakin and keeping motor cool.

For stock or fixed endbell motors guys use the lowest voltage possible to reduce arcing and heat buildup. For modified motors with adjustable endbells to reduce arcing most turn them back to the zero degree mark during breakin using the same methods for voltage as stock, but after breakin adjust the timing back to normal.
