Hi guys, I've got an idea to run past you!

I'd like suggest a date that all of the Sunshine State forum-users can meetup on to enjoy their R/C boats. With all of the lousy weather we've endured this Summer how about gathering at the Sarasota pond on Saturday, November 6th, 2004 to run some hulls and celebrate the end of the hurricane season? I know this sounds like a long time off, but with family stuff, broken boats, etc. I'm hopefull that everyone possible can attend and share some fellowship that's a big part of this hobby for many of us. Plus who knows-you might see your boat or yourself in a future issue of RC Boat Modeler as I'll be shooting a ton of photos that day as well!

What Sarasota Pond? Are You Talking About The Lake Behind The New Library On Fruitville?

I was thinking of the lake just east of I-75 at I believe the Fruitville Road SR-780 exit. It's been used in the past for the IMPBA Nats and is big enough for even the fastest gasboats. It also has some lakeside covered picnic tables as well to setup your pits in. I chose this spot as it's fairly in the center of the state and would be easy to locate-drive to by everyone.

You Are Right Though, Is About Center Of The State (cfracr=central Florida) And easy To Find!! I Am Actually Taking A Member That I Met Here In The Boards There Today.

There Is A Good Group Of People That Are Local That Run There Often, But I Don't Think Read The Boards. So I Will Pass The Info On To Them If This Becomes A Reality.

I'm fine with the following Saturday, but it'll be up to everyone here to decide when they want to meetup. I'm also looking forward to meeting everyone and checking-out their boats! Ron, I did great through both storms which beat the crap out of areas all around my place. Besides a few torn shingles and a bad case of cabin fever over Labor Day the Eyrich clan is fine-but I'm ready for the end of hurricane season! Thanks for asking!

It's likely a good 5 hour drive from Jacksonville to where the lake is (located between Bradenton and Sarasota on I-75).

Oh yea I forgot that sarasota was so far west in the Panhandle. So it's really a 8 Hour Drive. 6 for me. LOL J/K..

wow, I just realized I've been to that lake before. The 2000 impba nats were held there I believe, right? The boaters over there named the pond after the late engine guru named Tom Grannis if I'm not mistaken??? Anyhow, that's just over 3 hours away from me. Hmmmmmmm :) I've got 3 boats that I can bring to play if I can swing it. Always looking for good times with some fellow boaters, what the heck, right :)

ah yeah, andrew was a mean sob. you were south of me, near Kendall. I'm actually in west hollywood/pembroke pines. I can just jump on Alligator alley across to I75 and head north to the lake

Yes Hollywood Is Way North. Aligator Alley Is The Right Way For You. I Used Us 41. But The Alley Would Be Quicker. Should Take You No More Than 3hrs. Its 1.5hrs North Of Naples.

Good question-that's a subject I hadn't considered but rest assured we'll have some mode of transportation present in Sarasota to pickup a DOA hull-even if it's only a small inflatable.

Well The Weather Is Going To Be Nice So I'm Heading To The Lake Tomorrow Morning. I Just Love Making The First Ripples Of The Day On The Lake. Something To Be Said About A Cool Breezeless Lake Of Glass Just Calling My Name.

I Have Set Up A Couple Of Bouys On The East Side For A Bit Of Racing. There Is Also A Full Oval Course On The South Side.
I Have To Dodge Them When Landing & Taking Off My Float Planes. :D

Is that Sarasota White Caps club lake? Do you have to notify them to run there? I know they have a drivers stand on the south end of the lake with oval bouys. There is a lock on a cable that keeps you away from the drivers stand. The Sarasota White Caps would probably unlock the cable and bring there chase boat if asked. I think its a good idea and sounds like a lot of fun hope to see ya all there.

Yes, it's the same square "lake" that the Sarasota White Caps use. You can use the west side of the lake on off-club days (that's where the covered picnic tables are) but CFRACR has spoken to the club about using the club 'stand as well.

CFRACR yes I was the one who contacted you. I was truck less for a few weeks but have picked up a used truck so I am back on the road. I was at that lake a few weeks ago and meet a few guys and can only think of a few names Mitch G. & Matt H.[fast twin engine rigger] I took my Lazer 45 with QD25 [white] 55" Dumas QD 35 [pink]and Avenger pro 260 zen[black] Lots of fun. I have also picked up a chase boat 9ft with electric trolling motor. I am trying to come down on Friday. If you would like I will call to let you know.
